Before the weekend came, Emily surprised me by sending flowers to my work--all the way from Florida--for my birthday!  I got them on a super snowy day and it was the sweetest, most thoughtful gesture.

On Friday morning I went into work and my friend had put up some birthday decorations and there were a couple cards and a gift waiting for me.  It really brightened my morning.  Would anyone be interested in seeing what I got for my birthday?  Perhaps a separate post to share that?

Friday evening I did some shopping at the mall--but purchased nothing--and had dinner with Marco.  It was a super low key evening, exactly what we both needed, topped off with an episode of Banshee.

Saturday was my birthday so we started the morning off right at the gym--which helped to feel good all day long and when I got dressed for the evening's party (and for the treats I ate).

We came back to the condo and Marco surprised me by making eggs benedict for the first time.  So good!  An awesome first breakfast in my 30's.

Marco went out during the afternoon to run around and collect supplies and food for the evening festivities.  He came back with a beautiful bouquet of balloons!  Balloons are so fun to get, and you can enjoy them for a few weeks too--what a treat!

Marco planned a birthday party for me at our new place, but in the party room--which was awesome because our place really isn't ready, or up to my standards, to show people yet.  Plus, no pre-cleaning required and plenty of room to fit everyone with ample seating.  This is what I wore and you can see a full body shot on Instagram.
Outfit deets:  Mexx cardigan, Urban Planet top, H&M faux leather leggings, Liliana wedges & Smart Set necklace.

My friend Lindsay's fiancĂ© made me a pecan pie!  She poured through my blog to discover my favourite pie, and he made it; a joint effort.  It was so good.

A beautiful Kate Spade 'Hello Sunshine' necklace from a friend; I never want to take this off.

Sunday morning, feeling pretty good--and not hung over--I went to the gym.

Then back to the condo for another breakfast by Marco.  Two thumbs up.

I spent all afternoon filming my next Place d'Orleans video.  It took me about three hours to film, and another six to edit; needless to say, bedtime came after midnight.

I took a quick break to run downstairs.

The set-up for the shoe shots; looks like someone has the photography itch.

I'm slowly making my way through all the footage from leading up to our move with just one more to go after this one; the actual move day, itself!

In this video I show you the kitchen in our new place, some packing clips and go on a date with Marco.  Thanks for following along and watching.  Once I get the final video up, I'll share a condo tour, photos and more!  Still slowly trying to unpack and living amongst boxes, but it takes time, right?  Or at least that's what I'm telling my very minor Type A side.

Hello!  I just wanted to quickly pop in and say thanks for all the kind birthday wishes on the weekend--I had a wonderful day on Saturday and will share more, including weekend snaps later today.

I spent all afternoon on Sunday filming my next Place d'Orleans video, and then six hours editing it all together until almost midnight.  The picture above is a screen shot from the video!  Needless to say, I'm a little pooped today and didn't get a chance to compile my recap for this morning.  Rest assured, it's coming.

As far as a quick condo update, I'm still not fully unpacked, which feels a little bit chaotic, but I want to enjoy my down time at the same time.  So a little chaotic, a little lazy, it will get done within the coming days.  Other than that, the place is wonderful and waking up here is so lovely--minus the non existent curtains, ugh.  I've been using an eye mask to block out the early morning light.  I've done more loads of laundry than I can count because I don't have to go down to the sketchy basement anymore.  I've also happily filled and emptied the dishwasher #simplepleasures #lifeisgood.

Hope you all had a great weekend, and can someone please send some warm weather this way?  We are sitting at -32C today which makes me wince--please Spring, hurry up!

Oh, and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today I am 30.  A new decade!  A milestone--from what everyone is telling me.  I'm not sure I'm ready but I guess we are here now.  I love my birthday--and birthdays in general--so here are a few thoughts on turning the big 3-0.

First off, social media love; Facebook, tweets, texts and more.  That feels pretty freaking awesome and my grandparents called and sang to me over the phone.  This is a once-a-year occasion and I'm going to revel in it.

Does 30 mean old?  Remember when we were young, and 30 was like, geezer status?  But, the older you get, the younger the 'older' ages seem.  Thus, from my calculations, 30 does not equal old.

Life is good.  I am living in an awesome place, I have a job, a car, more shoes than anyone should have (um), loving friends and family, and a wonderful man (who is currently making me brunch)--it's taken a while to get here but it's nice to reflect and realize, yeah! Things are pretty nice.

I've noticed as I've celebrated birthdays over the years, my priorities have shifted, slowly.  Birthday used to be about presents, and now birthday wishes, hugs or friends spending time with me feels like present enough.  I'm not going to say I don't enjoy receiving gifts, who doesn't, but those material things don't seem as important anymore.  Having people want to come to my birthday party, or writing a poem, or even a simple card--those mean so much more.

I hear when you turn 30 you care less about what people think, and have more of a 'no bullsh*t' attitude.  I will always be polite, kind and friendly, but sometimes, especially as women, we take too many things to heart.  It's important to be kind to yourself, not let others bring you down and focus on the people who matter most in your life, right?  Right.  Okay, so, anytime now 30.

From what I hear, 40 is the new 20, so does that mean 30 is the new 10?  Bring on adolescence!

I also hear that your thirties are way better than your twenties--of course, coming from my expert friends who are already in that age bracket, so I'll take their word for it.

I can legally drink! Oh wait...

Lastly though, in all seriousness, and not to get all cheese on you, I grateful to be here, writing this post--hey, I made it to 30!  Although I don't wake up everyday and count my blessings like I should, because 'real life' gets in the way, I am excited to celebrate this day & so happy you are here on this adventure with me.  To the next decade!

Photos taken last month during my early family birthday dinner.
Outfit deets:
* Zara low back sweater which you've seen in the summertime (a fave outfit post) & with a skirt and boots; I also have it in black.
* Urban Planet double layered chiffon cami (new!).
* Urban Planet half faux leather leggings which you've seen with my favourite boots and in maroon.  These are amazeballs and I get so much wear out of them.  I purchased them back in the Fall and wore them in my Bundling Up video; I love that they are different from black, they fit well and cost me under $10.  Win, win, win.
* Call it Spring boots (new!) and purchased a few weekends ago to get me through the remainder of this winter (RIP to my favourite Rampage boots).
* H&M snood which you've seen when I first got it, years ago, with the same jacket in the Fall.
* Phillip Lim for Target bag; I use this bag everyday to commute back and forth to work.  I put my clutch/cross-body purse in it, my heels for the day, lunch and anything else needed.
* Accessories: Gucci sunglasses (old) & Swarovski bangle.

Today is my last day in my twenties--can we please just take a moment of silence for that?

.
.
.

Now that we got that out of the way, happy Friday!  So excited the weekend is finally here and we can get down to the stuff that really matters; friends, family, fun times and maybe a birthday celebration or two.

I love this combination of layered chiffon, knit on knit on faux leather.  I've been on the hunt recently for chiffon-style strappy tanks for layering under my tops and sweaters instead of a snug tank--so much chic.  I totally wanted to show you guys the shoes I wore with this outfit indoors, but it was freaking freezing so I kept my boots on.

Any fun plans for this weekend on your end?  I'll be back tomorrow to share a few thoughts and you know I'll fill you in now how I spent my weekend come Monday.  See you tomorrow!

I'm playing catch up with all the footage I took leading up to our move.  Here is last Friday night, Saturday's vlog has already been edited and Sunday--aka day before moving--is currently in the queue.  I'm trying to unpack the chaos that surrounds me in our new place but also need some "down time" doing something I love.  In this vlog I show you my new closet and Marco & I go on a date.

On Friday night, instead of packing, I went to Winners for some retail therapy.  As you know, I've been sick recently, completely run down from doing too much, and I moved yesterday.  I needed a couple hours of pure, unproductive, me time.

I found this gorgeous Helmut Lang blazer and would have seriously contemplated forking out the cash, had it been one size bigger.  I know the picture looks okay, but the shoulders and arms were a smidge too tight.

So instead I found this Premise Studio angled blazer that I snatched up.

It was so mild on Friday, that for the first time since October, I didn't wear boots to work--what a nice feeling.

I got home and quickly changed for an impromptu dinner date with Marco.  I changed into black skinnies & OTK boots; I didn't even touch up my make-up and later wished I kind of had because...

More after the jump...

It's finally here: move day!

I was up until after almost 3am last night finishing my packing--turns out, I was less organized than I thought.  That said, it's done.  It's done!  Now just have to supervise the movers, bite my tongue and pray nothing gets broken.

The plan for the day is as follows: movers arrive at Marco's at 9am.  I will be heading there just before then so we can keep an eye on things at both ends.  Once all packed up, we will head over to my place together and get this place packed up by the movers.  Then, it's on to the new spot for unloading.

The bonus is that we both have our apartments until the end of March, which means there will be a few items remaining once the movers load up my place, such as my bed, dresser, armour, etc.  All things I plan to sell and don't want to move.  Additionally, a garbage bag of laundry--how do people deal with that?--and some bottles of wine that I suppose I will just transport over the coming days on my own.

Tomorrow I have taken the day off work to unpack and organize and putter away at my own pace, which I'm looking forward to.  I'm even more excited to spend the first night in our new place, and in our new bed--from the couple quick lie downs, it seems like something I could get used to!

I'll share weekend snaps on Tuesday and you can see what my apartment living room usually looked like here, if you'd like.

MIKOH swimwear | Maui & Banyans

I've got my mind on vacation and eyes on these Mikoh tops.  I have no vacation planned, but want to splurge on one of these, in either that yellow citrus colour or the black.  Not sure which style I prefer, but either way the back detail is killer.  If I was shorter and could fit in a one piece, I would totally go for this.

I'm living in a bit of a chaotic mess, currently, but that's kind of expected with move day only four days away, right?

Four days you guys!

I'm so freaking excited, but did have a big of an ugly-cry-meltdown in front of Marco on Monday night.  I like to keep it real here so I think with all the happiness and excitement, the stress of moving and such a big change was suppressed and it just bubbled up quickly and had to come out.  That said, I feel so much better and understood and just, ready.

So we've had a few hiccups this week, with regards to the move but I'm trying to stay positive.  Basically we were all set to move in this coming Sunday and have been advised that we are not allowed to move on the weekend, according to the condo Property Manager.  Additionally, we have to pay a fee to move in--does this sound ridiculous to you?  It sounds a little ridiculous to me.  However, chins are up because ultimately this is exciting and by this time next week I'll be moved in with a glass of wine in hand (likely while continuing to unpack, ha).

I have been doing some slow packing this week, and am taking a load to the consignment shop tonight, which will get rid of some of the clutter.  I have five garbage bags sitting in my front foyer to be donated and a kitchen that hasn't been touched, as far as packing goes.

However, I've packed up more than half my clothes, most of my decor and trinkets, and shoes.  I feel like when you start packing though, you realize how much more you have than you thought.  So, in a sense I feel like I'm doing good with the packing, but know I have a ways to go.  With that, the next few days are open and dedicated to packing.  C'mon Monday, I'm excited for you!

I am counting down the days till I move and bringing you along on this life adventure!  In this vlog Marco and I order our new couch, have our bed delivered +more.  As always, thanks for being here & watching!

Outfit deets:
* Vero Moda blazer which I purchased on Boxing Day and you've seen with a pretty floral dress.
* Jules & James fox top which you've seen with hot pink shorts in the summertime.
* Jacob jeans (thrifted) which I don't wear often because they stretch out quickly but I love the knee and back details on.
* Aldo Baulch heels which you've seen with red leather pants.  Considering I was torn on spending the $40 bucks on these and wear them at least twice a week, I'd say I've easily gotten my money's worth.
* Accessories: Limité necklace, Bijoux Terner cuff & vintage (via garage sale) clutch.

I picked up this cute fox top almost two years ago at Zellers and it's been a favourite in these summer and winter time.  It has spaghetti straps but the neckline is pleated and the fabric is a thicker, matte satin finish--all around goodness.  It feels good and looks good considering it was such an inexpensive find.  On top of all that, the print is cheeky and unexpected and always makes people giggle--I like that.

One of my favourite tips to share with friends when rolling your jeans is to keep it messy, 'Like you didn't try, but you actually did'.  It looks effortless despite the few minutes it took to get those messed up cuffs juuust right.

Since I was sick all last week, my weekend was pretty low key and these weekend snaps are pretty boring with a lot of restaurant food--a nice change from five days of home-made egg-mcmuffin breakfasts, apples with cheese snacks and soup for dinner.  We had our new bed delivered, cable installed, ordered our sectional and found a mattress.  Read on to see basically what I ate...

Friday night on my own I had no groceries and did not feel up to going out so I ordered Greek on Wheels and edited some footage (if you'd like, see Sarah's baby shower video here).

I slept in Saturday morning and then did some light packing.  I used some winter accessories & pashminas to wrap up a few fragile items.  I am moving this Sunday!

On our way to the new spot, we stopped for chicken sandwiches and I splurged on fries (I never get fries but had a hankering).

I showered, got dressed and did my hair for the first time in a week.  I didn't feel great, but improved, which was a nice change from being so sick with a terrible sinus cold.  Here I am with our new bed!  We had scheduled the delivery over a week ago so it was a real week brightener.

The view from our new place--will be so nice in the summer with the water.

A sneak peak at the closet in the second bedroom with a few things.  I still have so much to bring but have purged a lot.

Quiet Saturday night in, resting more with some Carribean take-out.

Sunday morning I was woken at 8:45am by a call from the cable guy who was going to be at our new place, 'in five minutes'.  Panic!  I jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes, tossed my make-up in a bag and rushed off.  I called Marco immediately and he showed up just minutes after me with Tim Hortons in hand--so perfect.

It took over three hours for the guy to install the cable and Internet and we just sat around on our phones--isn't technology grande?  Afterwards, we ordered our new sectional and found a mattress which is being delivered on Tuesday.  Then home to rest for a few hours.

Later in the evening we returned to the new spot and did a few loads of laundry.  The fact that we have some fresh towels ready to go for when we move in makes me happy.  Plus, four fewer things to move.

The rest of the night was spent assembling our new bed since it's the only chance we have before the mattress arrives.  I'm so pleased with how it looks and can't wait to see it in the daylight.  Still need to buy a duvet, bedspread and throw pillows.  I've already purchased a set of sheets which I'll have to wash this week prior to move day.  Exciting time!

For my video lovers, here's a repeat on my life update.  Move date is next weekend; can't wait!

I am a shoe lover, and if there is one thing I will splurge on, it's shoes.  I have a special birthday quickly approaching, a big one you guys, and while I likely won't buy myself a gift--as some people do--I can still ooh and ahh over these beauties above.  I'd love to add any or all three to my collection.

Bring on March and the last few days of my twenties!  (whoa)

In February I celebrated Sarah's bump with her family, visited Marco's family in Kingston and made  few H&M purchases while there.  I bought a couple pairs of boots (in an attempt to replace old, worn out ones), new to me-but last season Zara shoes and finally wore my OTK boots more than a few times (hoorah for dry pavement).

I showcased several outfits (maroon leather jacket, tweet + fur coat) and became a Style Ambassador for Clearly Contacts.  I purged my closet big time & had a sale, spent the day at Place d'Oleans thanking shoppers & received an early birthday gift (Vince Camuto & Michael Kors bracelets, yo!).

My family & friends surprised me with an intimate early-birthday celebration, I got super sick with a sinus cold at the end of the month and stood up for #PINKSHIRTDAY with another Clearly Contacts collab.

And the most exciting news of February, Marco and I decided to move in together, found a place and signed a lease.   We shared a special 'first meal' picnic, I showed you my new kitchen--and love for faux leather pants--we furniture shopped (see my outfit here) & I goofed around in our new space.  Can't wait to move in next weekend!

I feel like almost everyone & their mother owns these Zara beauties from last summer and I specifically made a point not to purchase them--not because I didn't want them, simply because I didn't need them.

Well, enter Zara semi-annual sale and one pair left in my size for $19.99.

SOLD!

And so, these sweet sandals came home with me.  That said, if you're still hung up on them, there are still a bunch kicking around on eBay and while you'll pay a pretty penny unlike myself, you'll likely end up with a pair without a pen mark on the back side... unlike myself.

* I know I shared these in my Weekend Snaps, but I feel all new shoes--that are pretty enough--deserve their own post.
* Here is this year's version of the sandal, with a slightly thicker heel.

Souchi sweaters

These sweaters look the same, don't they?  So why the huge price difference, you might ask.  The Claudia, on the right, is hand loomed 100% cashmere, made in the USA.  The Patrizia, on the left, is kind of like a less expensive baby sister; she is made by machine, still cashmere, and still in the USA.

I found this little gem of a sweater on Pinterest and immediately went to the Souchi site to check out what else they had to offer.  Beautiful pieces at higher price points, but after browsing around, this is still my favourite--I would take Patrizia, because I'm frugal like that.  #dreaming
