Outfit deets:
* Jacob dress (thrifted) which you have seen once before with a pink cardigan (one of my favourite outfit posts, actually).
* Payless nude pumps (new!) that I picked up recently and absolutely love (and get a ton of compliments on).  They also have a rubber bottom so it makes walking in them super easy.  I want these next!
* eBay necklace that is no longer available but here is a similar metallic orange one and another one in turquoise (currently sold out but you can request to be notified when they re-stock it).

Dress to impress him... or yourself?

This is something I've given quite a bit of thought to lately.  In my previously relationship, I didn't care what he thought, I wore what I liked and he usually liked it too.  Now, I know there were certain things he wasn't a fan of (leggings) so I typically avoided those when we would be doing something together (despite my love for them), but generally, I didn't really care.  My body, my style, my choice.

To this day that stays true.

However.

Sometimes I know I'm wearing something kind of man repelling and certainly not for the guys (hello, it's for me and tha ladies);  but at the same time, I don't want to dress in something someone I'm dating will find unattractive, either.

Has your style changed due to your relationship?

Who do you typically dress for (other than yourself)?  Women or men?

 Outfit deets:
* Trixxi dress from Ross.  So I picked up this little number in Florida last year and it was a deep, bright sunny yellow.  I, at the time, was on a wash-my-new-clothes-before-wearing-them kick and tossed this in the wash when I got back home before I ever wore it.  Pulled it out 40 minutes later and I had a neon lime-ish coloured dress.  Wah wah.  I ended up letting it sit in my closet for the past year until (hoorah!) this year where neon is super in and I feel really excited (and 'ready') to wear it.  I tried to wear it last week only to discover the hemline felt too short for work so on Wednesday night I finally let the hem down (it was about two inches) and then finished the edge et voila!
* Aldo wedges which are somewhat of a go-to for me (hello, nude suede, they match all) and have been seen before with pink pants, twice, a leather mini skirt at night and also with nude fishnets.
* Accessories: Joe Fresh & Swarovski bangles (both birthday gifts from my sister from different years), Costa Blanca bangle & Emily Elizabeth 'Faith' necklace.

Happy Friday!  I'm so excited for the weekend and to sleep in!  Well, sort of.  Tomorrow there is a huge garage sale happening (it's an annual thing, which btw I missed last year, ugh) and it starts early; as in, I will be aiming to get there for 7:30am.  I know.  This is very unlike me, getting up early on the weekend, that is, but it's worth it for some of the bargains you can find.  I went two years ago and found some amazing crap, including a pair of real True Religion jeans for $5 (are you kidding me!?).

On top of that, last night my girlfriend and I started a new tradition (I hope!), it's called, 'Winners Hopping' and it's all about visiting various Winners locations in one night.  We grabbed some quick dinner from the grocery store in between the two stores we managed to tackle and had a very successful night.  We both came home with a couple bags of goodies which I will share with you soon.

Lastly, I will be celebrating a friend's birthday on Saturday night, which I'm really looking forward to (girls night!) and in case my 7am rise-and-shine time is too brutal, I've alloted myself a few free hours during the day on Saturday to nap so I'm in top shape that evening.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Outfit deets:
* F21 jacket that I bought super on sale a couple years ago and am so glad I did because it's turned out to be the perfect coat.  I've worn it before in autumn and also in one of my first outfit posts (eep).
* Mexx dress that I've worn for Halloween as a sailor (and everyone thought I was a nurse) and once at the park where something embarassing happened.
* Diva Lounge wedges that are becoming a quick favourite.  Seen with denim shorts for my birthday, an Easter outfit and another white dress.
* Accessories: Bijoux Terner beaded necklace, Aldo gold necklace & Baby Phat glasses

Everytime I wear this dress, without fail, someone tells me I look like a nurse.

With. Out. Fail.

Keep on keepin' on.

 Outfit deets:
* Gap dress (thrifted) which I've had for a couple years and you've seen belted with a turtle neck and tights and also with my favourite gladiator sandals.
* Gap denim jacket (thrifted recently) that I'm absolutely in love with.  It seems to trump all other denim jackets I own (which are numerous).
* Joe Fresh suede boots that I've had since Joe Fresh first opened (four years ago?) and I wore with a sweater/skirt/tights combo in autumn.
* Accessories:  Le Chateau pashmina & necklace, Michael Kors watch & random bangles.

Adding interest to an outfit can be as easy as 1, 2, 3.  Accessories are key and the possibilities are endless.

Above, I've shown the perfect (and easiest) way to add interest to an outfit with simple accessories: a necklace, jacket and pashmina.

I started with a basic a-line/tent style dress and casual flat boots (it was a sunny, semi-chilly spring day).  I added a wooden beaded necklace.  Then layered a denim jacket.  And lastly added a pashmina (which came in handy while sitting on patio later on when the wind picked up).

I personally tend to keep a jacket and pashmina with me at all times (throughout the spring/summer/fall) as the temperatures can be unpredictable and/or your day may run into the evening when the mercury tends to drop.  It is a simple and basic way to chic-ify your outfit and stay cozy too.

Outfit deets:
* Costa Blanca tweed-ish jacket that I've had for years.  Is a snug fit so I have to suck it in to close it, but I love the weight and colour.  I've worn it before with blue as well and a turtleneck under a dress.
* Joe Fresh dress (new!) that has a cool 'drapes/curtains' look and feel to it (also came in black and white).  The fabric is super heavyweight and the fit is kind of strange (roomy in the mid-section) but I liked the mod-ness of it, plus it has pockets.
* Bamboo otk boots that I have worn as my commute-boot all winter long and previously seen with jeans and a grey, thrifted jacket and also in a shopping post.
* Aldo wedges that can be worn with or without the ankle straps and that I have worn to death since getting them.  You've seen them with black skinnies (without the ankle strap), with denim and a leather jacket and with a pretty salsa dresss.  I also have them in brown seen here with layered tights and an olive ruffled skirt I love and with white skinnies.
* Accessories: H&M bangle, gifted square bangle, Pandora bracelet & Bay ring.

Welcome back Monday!

That is all.

Have  a great day!

 Outfit deets:
* Calvin Klein dress (from Ross) that was a birthday gift from my parents (that I picked out).  First time wearing this!
* Dynamite faux leather, perforated blazer (a Christmas gift from my parents).  Seen with a ruffled top and navy.
* Payless heels (new!).  Love these and saw my mom rocking them and had to get a pair for myself (that's a first!).  They have a snake-skin print to them and a lower heel, which is nice for those days where you want a heel but don't want 4+ inches.  These are also super comfortable and when I went shopping with my girlfriend to get them, she picked up a pair for herself!
* Accessories: H&M necklace, Pandora bracelet, Suzy rings & Jacob bangle

Monday is here already!  My weekend went by fairly slow, and I did quite a bit so I can't complain too much.  That and with the weather getting warmer, it's getting lighter earlier in the mornings and the sun is staying out past 7pm making getting up for work on Monday not so bad (I'm grateful to have a job also, as there have been many lay offs recently and it's just awful).

Friday night I went for a massage after work at a new spot and it was amazing.  The girl really knew her stuff and gave my muscles a good work out.  Afterwards it was home to get ready and out to dinner.  Saturday ended up being a totally impromptu shopping day with one of my besties and I finally got to check out the new Marshalls that just opened up here; and you guys, I picked up some killer finds (video coming) that I'm extra excited about.  That evening was a birthday celebration for my grandpa (85!) and I hung out with some girlfriends afterwards.  Sunday ended up being totally lazy (well, I did go for a 'quick' 2km run, which is pretty impressive since I never workout on the weekend) and while I felt a little unproductive and bored at times, meh, sometimes you need that on the weekend.

Outfit details:
* Dynamite blazer (a personal fave), last seen with a ruffled pale pink dress, here with a geometric print dress & with skinny pants.
* Spense dress, picked this up in Florida at Ross and was part of my birthday gift from my parents.
* BCBG heels from TJ Maxx last year when I went to Florida.  Last seen with white skinnies, here with grey denim, and my with my favourite ruffled skirt.
* Givenchy nude fishnet tights that I wear all. the. time.  I found a handful at Winners and scooped them up as they are hard to find and since I've been wearing them for years, I need to replace them yearly.
* Vintage necklace,  Pandora bracelet (with two new charms I received for my birthday: 'Journey' and my birthstone, 'Aquamarine,' similar), Dillards & F21 bangles.

I'm switching up how I list my outfit details, what do you think?  Do we like it?  LoveMaegan... does something similar and I really like how she lists what she previously wore with something and gives a visual before you even click the link.  Thoughts?

So I wore this dress to work the other day, and while I got a ton of compliments and love the colour, I couldn't wait to rip it off when I got home.  Too tight and too fussy!  The following day was dubbed a 'flowy' day where I wore skinnies and a flowy top.  Ah.  To be able to breathe.

I know I said I had a purchase post coming soon on the loot I nabbed in Florida, plus a recap of my vacation, also I want to share the birthday gifts I received; I did not lie, it's just taking me a bit longer.  Between going through all my photos, editing them, and (the worst) not having Internet (the connection I was pirating has now been locked.  Damn!), I've been a little slow moving.  But alas, I have a 'net connection now and will get those posts up very soon.  Hope you are all having a great day!

Joe Fresh dress, Qupid boots, American Eagle belt, uknonwn tights, Auslini bangle & Suzy necklace

So I finally put together an outfit so I can wear my new boots and what happens?  Fire alarm at work.  Ya.  I didn't even get to strap these puppies on since I wear a commute boot into work and change shoes when I get there (Canadian winters are harsh on shoes).  I got to work, fire alarm in full effect, so we are moved to another building... where we wait... for over an hour... to finally be told we can go home for the day.  Woohoo!! A real 'snow day' (it was snowing like crazy) which never happens but bummer because these shoes never saw the light of day.  Oh well, next time.

What are your plans for the weekend?  I plan to relax tonight, catch a movie tomorrow night and spend a whole lot of time relaxing.  Oh, and pancakes are on the menu for a Saturday morning breakfast (mmm, it's been a while).

Here are some fun links from around the web:

These closets are nuts.

I would love a pair of these flats in yellow.

Some great relationship tips anyone and everyone can apply.

People.  In love.

I know the holidays are over, but this ornament chandelier is simply awesome.

Have a great weekend! xo

Urban Original dress, Diva Lounge wedges & Town & Reese earrings

I'm not sure if I'll be able to take a tropical vacation this winter (I sure hope so though because it was -34 yesterday!), but if I do, you can bet I'll be packing this dress, my new wedges and these summery earrings.

Neutrals and pops of turquoise (my favourite colour) are my fave.  I only got the chance to wear this dress once last summer (for Canada day, with red shoes) because she sadly got into a bit of a fight with the washing machine. Turns out, if you don't want to be hand-stitching crocheted parts of a dress back together, you best get to hand washing.

Moving on!

 Now for the fun part...
...is giving away these  earrings just for you!

I'm on a diet.  Ha.  Haha.  Hahaha.  That is laughable because I don't do diets (you think I have that kind of will power?).  So, I guess I'm not really on a diet, but as I sit here and type this, my stomach is growling despite just eating (cottage cheese with berries).  I am certainly watching my intake since completely over indulging throughout the holidays, and am trying to get back to eating clean.  However, I'm starving.  How starving?  I just ate two Vitamin C pills to drown out of cries of my angry stomach.

Okay, so I'm not that hungry, I have eaten today, and eaten well.  An egg white omelet for breakfast (with cheese and broccoli), an apple for a snack, turkey soup, (10) almonds and the cottage cheese.  Tonight I have plans for grilled chicken (going to use my panini press instead of my oven) and a large side salad with cherry tomatos and low-fat feta.  Are you bored yet?

I wouldn't say this is a New Years Resolution (that's far too cliché), just a kick start to get back into my regular routine.  You see, over the past few months I have been indulging maybe slightly too much.  Not to the point that's it necessarily noticeable to others (is it!?) but it is to me.  And I don't like it.  One bit.  Something must be done.  Also, I'm not really digging the way it's making me feel, and when that happens, it's time to kick your own butt, hence, precisely what I'm doing.

While perusing YouTube the other day, I came across a BodyRock.tv workout they had posted, which prompted me to their site (I had a friend who used to do their workouts and she raved about them).  Sure enough, tight lean bodies, friendly (and likeable) attitudes, and simple (but killer) workouts you can do in your own living room (or at the gym, if you have a membership like I do).  Awesome.  I'm taking one of the workouts (it's seven minutes; pu-leeze, you can do anything for seven minutes) to the gym tonight and going to give it a try after I hit the cardio.  Also, I was able to download the Gymboss interval timer app on my iPhone versus forking out the cash to purchase one, which means no waiting to try these workouts 'properly' and no excuses.

I find I often need some sort of variation, kick-start or newness for my workouts.  Zumba seems to be the only thing I've stuck with consistently (almost three years) but everything else gets pretty boring.  I recently tried Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred.  Phew!  What a doozy.  Seriously killer.  There are three workouts (level 1, 2, and 3) and you do each for ten days before moving onto the next.  I certainly couldn't discipline myself to workout for 30 days in a row, but when I was lacking motivation to hit the gym, it was nice to go home and have an alternative in my living room.  That said, it didn't last long before I was unmotivated to workout from home, so back to the gym I went.

And now?  Well now I just found out that my favourite Zumba instructor might not be teaching anymore (the only time I can actually guarantee I will get my ass to the gym) and I want to cry (dra-ma-tic).  She was there when I started doing Zumba as a participant.  She started out by helping another instructor, she would teach one song a few times, and slowly she would teach half the class until she took over and it became her class.  She's amazing, and I don't want her to leave.  Wah wah.

That's all.  Happy eating.

The other day while at work, a same-floor coworker exclaimed to me, 'You look just like my friend Laura!' turning to her friend the, 'Doesn't she look just like Laura?'  We'd never spoken before, and so I laughed and made a joke, 'Well I hope that's a.. good thing?'  Of course it was, she exclaimed.  She now calls me Laura every time she sees me.

About a year ago another same-floor coworker, a man this time, noticed a sparkly red (decorative) shoe I keep in my office atop a filing cabinet (you know I love shoes).  He started calling me Dorothy (as in the Wizard of Oz) and it kinda just stuck.  Over the months he'd call out to me in passing, 'Hey Dorothy!' until one day I was in the (very large) cafeteria at work in line at Tim Hortons.  I spotted him a couple people ahead of me, and when he was leaving, he saw me and shouted out, 'See you later Dorothy!'  When my turn came to order, I approach the cashier, ordered and then he said, 'Do you prefer Dora or Dorothy?'  I laughed and finally said, 'Amanda'.  He looked confused, with purpose, and I explained it was a long story.

Last summer while leaving work one day, one of the security guards asked me if my mother still works here?  I must have looked puzzeled because the other security guard chimmed in that it wasn't me, but this girl Laura that works here (hey, waitaminute...).  I guess people were getting her mixed up with me too because we sort of know each other and got to discussing it one day.  Now we laugh and tend to amicably call each other, 'Twin' when we see one another (as in, 'Hey Twin, how are you?').

Regardless of how laughable the experiences are above, I'm never phased or insulted when someone says I look like someone they know, or makes up a cute nickname for me.  Actually, in all honesty, I'm often intriguied by the unknown person they are talking about.  Could I really have a 'twin' in the city?  Have you ever been told you look like someone?  What about a celebrity?  Apparently she is mine.

Just call me Laura Dorothy Laura.

My weekend has been interesting; I've not only had a great one, it's been a huge learning experience.  Over the past few months, I've started to realize just how important communication is (it's huge), and you'd think I would know that (or anyone would, for that matter), but I didn't.  I never realized the powerfulness behind communication and talking things through.  I've also learned that you should never take anyone for granted.  They could be gone at the drop of the hat but if you're really, really lucky, they might still stick around.  You know who you are, and I'm so grateful.

I wore this outfit to a baby shower in the Spring and totally forgot to post about it, so, here we are.
Joe Fresh cardigan, Mexx dress, Jules & James flats, Le Chateau pashmina,
A.Co Designs key necklace, F21 bangles & Bay ring

Three patterns are better than one, wouldn't you agree?  I got so many compliments on this outfit - people seem to really be digging the mix of prints (did I really just say 'digging'?).  It's pretty basic as it's all black and white, but a great way to incorporate the mixing-prints-trend into your look.

Thank you all for your sweet comments on my return to the world of blogging.  You are all so sweet and it's much appreciated.  I'm doing well.  I know I promised you all a give-away, and I haven't forgotten; I promise to get that up early next week.

In other news, the weekend is here, my new shoes arrived in the mail yesterday (I will post those tomorrow), I have recently had a ton of luck in the purse-shopping-department (so rare for me, I've been using the same bags for years now with the odd addition here and there, and then I find like, four in the past three months - unheard of) and it's still Summer (for those of you wishing away the Summer and craving for Fall, please stop.  It's especially disheartening for someone like yours truly who lives in winter for, oh, about eight months of the year).  Okay fine, I'm secretly excited for faux fur, layers, leggings, breaking out my (faux) leather jackets, jeans tucked into boots (and boots for that matter), hot beverages, crisp evenings and spiced candles.  But I can wait.

H&M Dress + Aldo clutch   |   Suzy Shier dress + Maurizio Taiuti clutch

Went to a wedding a few weeks ago and snapped a shot of the two dresses I was debating between wearing.  I ended up going with the purple dress (it was brand new) and the white clutch (best of both worlds?).

Thrifted Gap dress (last seen here), Qupid sandals, Old Navy (kids) belt, Joe Fresh necklaces,
Charles Jourdan bag, Gucci shades, H&M and F21 bangles

Writers block.  Or as I like to call it, Bloggers Block.  What do you do when you suffer from it?  I'll either ramble or write about something completely irrelevant, or just not say anything at all.  With that said, let's choose the latter and discuss hair colour.  I am a (mousy) brunette, but clearly you did not know this from my photos as I hide it quite well (yeah right).  Recently, my girl friend suggested I do some sort of major overhaul with my hair (yelp) and I must confess; the thought scares (the shit out of) me.  First off, I love being blonde.  Secondly, after chopping off five inches off my hair almost three years ago (into an asymmetrical bob), I've been trying to grow my hair out (and am very reluctant to cut any of it).  Finally, it's summer, and summer is not the time I want to really switch it up.  However, I might consider something drastic for the fall.  Would you?
