Friday night, birthday dinner for a friend.
Outfit deets:  Winners jacket, Club Monaco scarf, Jacob sweater, Urban Planet leggings, Joe Fresh necklaces & Aldo boots (new & I'm in love!) & purse.

We went to Big Easy's for the birthday festivities and I ordered the sesame seared ahi tuna with grilled veggies and coconut rice.  The large pot of mayo on the side was still almost full when I was done but I thoroughly enjoyed a large Ceasar & glass of red wine.

When I got home, I was craving something sweet so I made a new healthier fave treat, which is similar to the coconut oatmeal bites you saw in my Recent Eats post (#28), but I don't make the balls and just eat it from the bowl.  Here's how:

1/4C oatmeal, 1/4C unsweetened coconut, 1tbsp honey, 1tsp cocoa, 2tbsp coconut oil, sprinkle of cinnamon, a few drops of vanilla & mix.  Enjoy.

On Saturday, I attended a five-hour beginner photography class that I purchased through Living Social back in August.  I have wanted a DSLR forever but have no idea how to use it.  The course focused on aperture, shutter speed & ISO.  I learned so much and am going to try and 'practice every day for a week or two'--our homework--to lock the basics in my memory.

During the second half of the class, we went outside to put our new knowledge to the test.  We had to complete an exercise where we photographed something three times at three different aperture settings and something in motion at three different shutter speed settings.  I took over 70 photos before narrowing it down to the six I wanted to use to be shown to the class on the projector screen.
Outfit deets:  Ashley B jacket, Olivia Sky thin-knit sweater, C'est Moi trapeze tank, Sirens leggings & Spring boots (last year).

Saturday night Chinese take-out & a movie.

Sunday morning I hit the gym and grabbed tea afterwards.  Then it was home for breakfast and a relaxing day inside.
Outfit deets:  American Eagle sweater (old, thrifted), Bongo jeans (old & DIY distressed, which you can't really see in the photo but a more detailed shot HERE), Spring boots folded down (from last year) & Urban Expressions bag.

Sunday afternoon: football, Apple products (ha) & working on a video.

This vlog is super short and just shows a good 24 hours of last weekend.  Sorry this is up so late, haven't had a chance to edit and upload it until now; I almost considered just scrapping it, but, alas here it is.

Sort of?

I excitedly picked up my three-year-old-only-worn-twice Aldo boots from the shoe repair last night and I know I promised you all a blog post, but, this is not the final one.

Basically what happened, I picked up the boots and while I hoped there would be even less platform than there is, I was really, really pleased with the results.  Alex from Bells Corners Shoe Repair did an amazing job and I was so excited to just be able to wear these beautiful boots, finally.  I took them home and wore them around my apartment while doing stuff and realized the left foot felt less stable than the right (pictured above).  Then I realized that while the heels matched in height, the platforms did not and the left foot's platform was about half an inch taller.

The right foot felt so good, stable and comfortable while I could feel the difference in my left foot.  I thought perhaps I could just get by it, but over the hour I decided that no, I would have to bring them back and get it fixed as it would always bother me.

So, I've taken them back to the shop and they are going to get them to match and even shave off more so that there is barely a platform remaining at all--which is perfect!  I will have to wait until next week to get these back but wanted to share some sort of an update with you.  I did take some real photos of the boots before hand and will take some pictures when I get them back on Monday to share.  This process is so exciting, I can't believe I never looked into this before; I didn't know this existed and I'm going to get a ton of wear out of these boots now.  Hoorah!

Additionally, I took in these boots as I totally forgot about them and rediscovered them in my closet last night!  I have worn them twice--purchased within a month of the ones above, three years ago--and put them away because they were unstable and far too high.  I've decided to get them lowered as well so I'll have some pictures to share of those next week too!

UPDATE | September 15th

I created a video explaining the situation and showing a few more pictures.

Hello!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi since I haven't posted today and I hate that.  To be honest, I feel like I'm in a bit of a blogging rut.  I don't have anything to talk about and my ideas have run dry.  It's not true but I haven't taken as many photos as I normally do and those are important to me, content-wise.  So, I'm sharing two photos from this week, the top one I posted on Instagram last night of what I was wearing and this bottom one--whoa! That's a close-up!-which I never posted but took earlier this week and was too shy to share.

So this week has been a great week, thus far and the weekend is quickly approaching, which is always a great thing...unless you're going through a difficult time, then I know how daunting weekends can be.  I've been there, through really difficult times where I could barely get out of bed let alone force a smile.  I dreaded the weekends and was so relieved when Monday morning came around and I could be back in my routine, despite feeling like I was barely holding it together.  If you're in a similar situation, I understand, I have been there, and I promise it will get better.  It's hard to say how long it will take, but I liked to try and remember that, 'One day longer, one day stronger' and I'm sending you a BIG HUG, where ever you are.

And, in other news, tonight is the night I go pick up my boots I'm having altered at the shoe repair!  I vlogged about it last week, and he said they would be ready today.  I took a bunch of (nice/good quality pictures, ie. not with my iPhone) photos of the boots before I dropped them off so will be able to show you the before and after!  I'm a little nervous, chopping off two inches of a wedge heel is kind of a big deal, but I'm optimisitc they will look great--and I will be able to wear them without coming in at 6'5.

Additionally, I'm going to do some shopping tonight with a girl friend in search of a dress for her to wear to an upcoming wedding, so that will be fun and am definitely looking forward to that.  Tomorrow will be birthday celebrations with a group of girls for a friend's birthday and I'm uber excited for Saturday as I'm taking a photography class to learn how to work the DSLR camera I'm using!  Bring on the weekend, I'm ready for ya.

Hope you're having a good day, and to those who aren't, do something that makes you happy tonight, if you can.  Last night I painted my nails and while this is something I do on the regular, I don't enjoy it, however, I'm really enjoying the results of it today; a small thing putting a smile on my face.

If you could only choose 5 of your pairs of shoes, which would you choose!?  I went into my closet and had a hard time narrowing it down to just five, but came up with set I'm fairly happy with.

I tag all of you to do this & leave a comment & link down below if you do as I'd love to see.

Since Fall has come in with a bang, now is the perfect time to show you how to distress your denim shorts.

Not.

I took these photos a couple months ago but sat on editing them forever.  Well, here we are, almost halfway into September and I'm finally getting this up.  That said, you can still rock your denim shorts with some tights (are we still feeling that look?) or have them ready-set-go for your upcoming tropical vacation.

Read on to find out how I did mine...

Mine:  Colbretti men's jeans from Value Village ($6)

And of course a shot of me wearing them:

See my old denim shorts DIY from a long time ago HERE.

Friday night was a really special night; mine & Marco's one year anniversary.  I got dressed up and he took me out on the town.
Outfit deets:  Smart Set blazer (new), A.Co Designs top, American Apparel liquid leggings, H by Halston heels, vintage clutch (from a garage sale) & Suzy Shier necklace.

We went to Town and had an amazing meal.  These were our shared appetizers: crab cakes & a pork something-or-other (I'm so technical, clearly).  Needless to say, they were delicious.  We shared entrée plates after and had the meatballs and another pork dish.  It was so satisfying and enjoyable.  The music they played was on point too (perfect house meets electronica, think JMSN meets Klangkarussell meets Dpat and in between.  And if you don't know who any of those are, you're missing out and need to look them up on Soundcloud stat).

We sat at the weirdest table, at the back of the restaurant, side-by-side looking into the kitchen.  At first it felt a little awkward, but it quickly felt special and like we had our own private viewing to the chef's in action.  Afterwards, we went to Starbucks to grab coffee, tea and desserts to take home and indulge in.

Saturday early afternoon cheering on my man and team in their softball tournament (they lost, unfortunately).
Outfit deets:  Ardène flats & Almost Famous jeans.

I picked up Peanut in the afternoon to come for a sleep-over.  My parents went out of town and asked if I could take her, several months back, and the weekend finally arrived.  We had a nice time cuddling but she's getting so old, deaf and has a mild case of Alheizmers so she barks and lot and isn't as mobile as she used to be.  Still, she's completely adorable and I love her to bits.  I'll be devastated when she passes away as she's been with us for 13 years.

I made some 'gourmet' chicken salad and bought some artisan olive bread.  I ate almost the entire loaf to myself by the end of the weekend so feel a little yucky.  No more gluten until next weekend, back to some fresher-clean eating for the work week.

Chicken salad mix:  boil two large chicken breasts, once cooked, shred them and mix with mayo, pepper & red peppers in bowl.  Serve on a croissant or special bread.  The consistency should be chunky and hearty.

Sunday morning gym sesh and I 'splurged' on a protein shake afterwards.  They are just over $6 so I don't get one often, but sometimes a little reward is nice, plus it's so freakin' delicious.

I took Peanut home on Sunday morning and had a nice visit with my parent's, then headed to Marco's for dinner & Dexter.  I wore my first Fall outfit of the year, which carries some mixed emotions.  I always feel like Fall is too short and by the time I get into it, I really haven't had much of a chance to sport all the looks I wanted to rock.  On the flip side, summer. don't. go. WAH.
Outfit deets:  Winners jacket (old), Zara sweater over H&M sheer/opaque tee over H&M tunic tank (super layering!), Urban Planet sheen leggings, Ardène pashmina & Ash booties.
See the other version of this photo HERE.

In this vlog I go shopping for my next Place d'Orleans fashion vlog, share some exciting news about my bff and tell a lie to get a better deal $$$ :P

Thanks for watching! xo

Outfit deets:
* Jessica Simpson dress (new!), I picked this up recently on clearance at The Bay, it was originally over $100 and I got it for around $40 #superscore
* Forever 21 heels (new!) that I'm obsessed with and loving despite my former dislike for chunky heels.  I'm diggin' the chunky heeled look and think this is going to be a major trend.  You saw these in my recent haul video.
* Accessories:  Gucci shades, H&M necklace & random bracelets from F21 and gifted.

It's been a while since I've done a fitness related posts (see all those posts HERE) and since I've changed up my routine, what better time to share.

I gave up my GoodLife gym membership over four months ago.  I had been a member with them for almost a decade but since the beginning of 2013, I really hadn't been using my membership.  Sarah--my bff--and I started working out on our lunch hour in May 2012 and really got into a good groove alternating between running outside and body resistence workouts inside.  I loved that my workout was over and done with for the day by 1pm and when work was over, I could go home and relax or do whatever I wanted without the impending after-work workout.

To be honest, I was a little worried about giving up my membership, despite having not been for about three months.  I had a fear I would give up working out or be less motivated, but that did not happen.  I continued working out on my lunch hours, which I preferred and was saving money in the end.

Just over a month ago, I joined The Athletic Club, and have been working out there in the evenings and on weekends.  Sarah recently announced her pregnancy and we've kind of abandoned our lunch time workouts.  Not because she is expecting, simply because we are being lazy.  I would still be going at lunch had I not gotten the gym membership but since the urgency isn't there like before, I feel kind of meh about it.  Additionally, I really love spending lunch hours with her catching up, shopping or just sitting to enjoy a meal.

As far as running goes, I haven't run in a while.  I ran for 10 minutes on the treadmill a few weeks ago, and try to get some cardio in, but I have definitely cut back.  I wouldn't say I love running, but what I do really enjoy is seeing my improvement, which never ceases to amaze me.  My goal two years ago was to run 1km without stopping.  I surpassed that goal and ran 2km that summer without stopping.  Last summer was the first time I ever ran 5km without stopping which was such an accomplishment.  From there, I focused on less walking 'breaks' while running and I slowly started to bring my time down.  That doesn't mean there were set backs, or times when my time was worse, but gradually it got better.  When I started running 5km on my lunch hour, I was averaging 35 minutes; my best time came near the end of the summer at 29 minutes.

When the colder months came, I ran inside on the treadmill but would never do 5km because I was bored after 20-25 minutes and would wimp out and get off.  I kept my cardio up by running tons and tons of stairs on my lunch hour with Sarah; it was brutal but it helped when this summer rolled around and we started running outside again.  Almost immediately we were beating or averaging our best time from last summer and on one 5km run, I broke 26 minutes!  A time I never thought I'd be able to accomplish--also a run that was brutal and I wanted to quit on so many times throughout.

All that to say, running has been put on the back burner for now; my knees get really sore or can get really sore from running and I've re-hurt them again by playing in a softball tournament last week.  I don't have a huge desire to run, but at the same time, don't want to lose my endurance.  I'm sure I'll go back to it when I'm ready whether that be indoors or out.

So what have I been doing at the gym lately?  Instead of body resistence workouts with an elevated heart rate and considerable amounts of cardio, I'm now more focussed on strength training with heavy weights and working out one part of my body each time (eg. arms, shoulders, back, legs, etc.).  I use a combination of machines, barbells and free weights and almost always tac on an ab workout at the end of each session.  It's definitely a change and a challenge but I am enjoying it, for the most part.

If you made it to the end of this post, thanks for sticking with me and reading.  I know fitness isn't everyone's cup of tea, and for me it's definitely a daily work in progress.  It's still a struggle for me to go to the gym, I make it happen but definitely groan about it and an often dragging my ass to get there.  It's not really 'fun', but the way I feel afterwards is amazing.  My mood is elevated, I feel more confident, I know it helps me look better and I overall feel better.  I find when I hit the gym less or slack off, I start to get a little bit bitchy, so it's good for me to get my blood pumping and body moving.  If I know I won't be going to the gym that day--or for a few days--I simply try to make healthier choices; park far away, take the stairs instead of the elevator or go for a walk at lunch.  Bottom line, get your body moving, everyday.

Thanks for reading! xo

Hello work week!  Did everyone have a nice long weekend (if you were lucky enough to get one)?  I had an uber relaxing and lazy weekend.  Seriously, not much was done at all and while sometimes that's boring, it was quite nice to just sit around and watch YouTube videos for hours on end--that's kind of embarrassing to admit, but it was glorious--and have nothing more than hitting the gym and eating, be on the agenda.

Unfortunately on Friday I had a terrible headache which lasted a full 24 hours.  I stayed home from work and spent most of the day in bed, moving as little as possible and taking Advil.  I don't get migraines ever, but this is the second one in six months (weird?).  It ceased as the day went on, but moving around made sure to tell me it was still ever so present.  I whipped up a crepe for myself as an afternoon snack, which was delish.

Saturday, after the gym, I spent the day filming and editing my two most recent videos:  my everyday make-up routine & my most recent vlog (August 27 - September 1).

I never wear flip flops as I prefer a more fashion-forward look with Gladiators but at the same time, they are so easy to slip on.  This was after hitting the gym and I had forgot to pack my 'real' sandals but to be honest, I ended up just wearing these all day instead.
Outfit deets:  unknown green chiffon top (from Ross in Florida, a couple years back), Material Girl floral chiffon top, Bench shorts, American Eagle (from Payless) flip flops & Gucci shades.

Breakfast at home every morning this long weekend (that's a first!) and it was pretty much the same each day (I'll save you the pictures), which works for me!

On Sunday night, we ventured out and had a make-shift BBQ at a friend's place...which turned into a random dance party, me doing a shooter that was lit on fire and a long session of the boys killing zombies.

...oh, and practicing our twerking moves for an upcoming annual party.

Monday morning...er...afternoon gym sesh.  I ran out of tops so Marco lent me his H&M crew-neck tee.  I rolled up the sleeves and tucked the front in my shorts to girl-it-up.

A cray rain storm on Monday afternoon which resulted in more YouTube watching, lying around and being lazy.  Relishing in those last few hours of the weekend.

I'm a few days late, but before I say hello to September, here's a look back at August...

In August I rocked a romper--twice--for breakfast out with friends.  I photographed my bestie's pregnancy announcement (adorable, right?) and celebrated her birthday with dinner, go-karting, ice cream cake and a huge giraffe.

I bought a new bikini, spent a solid two hours washing my car and shared a cool DIY with a Northern Reflections sweatshirt.  I bought a cow-hide case for my new iPad mini, rocked one of my favourite outfits yet--which was totally a throw-on-and-go type look--and dressed as twinsies, by accident, with my man.

I went to El Camino for the second time, pulled a diva move and had an outfit change that night, went to a rooftop BBQ and stayed fairly consistent hitting the gym.

I rocked my new camo pants for a special evening out and the most important event that takes the cake, my nephew, Bentley, was born and I became an Aunt.

Hi guys!  Welcome to another 'episode' (?) of my life.  I love bringing you guys along with me for various day-to-day REAL LIFE events... sometimes there is nothing too crazy or exciting happening, but it's still fun to share and connect with you guys.

In this vlog I do a mad grocery shop, play in a softball tournament, make some sa-weeeeeeeet foods (fruit crepe, chickpea cakes, kale-avocado salad +more), I also share my thoughts on what it's like to film a make-up video, a cute outfit I put together and how much I. Hate. Packing.

Cheers & thanks for watching! xo

* I'll be back tomorrow with a Weekend Recap since today is the Labour Day holiday!  Enjoy your long weekend and keep up with me on my favourite social media (Instagram) for up-to-date

I've already shared snippets of my beautiful baby nephew, Bentley, on my Instagram & in a recent vlog, but as promised, here are a couple photos of my sister's little guy.  He's such a looker, and while normally that would just be the biased aunt in me, he really is a good looking babe.

Holding him was such a treat, I didn't want to let him go when we got together last weekend.  My little sister is a mother and although it was less than a year ago that she was getting married and celebrating her bachelorette, I know she's fully ready and excited to take on the newest chapter in her life and side note, I'm pretty pumped to be an aunt!

OMG, this was a difficult video to film.  Big ups and shout outs to alllllllll my beauty gurus out there, girlllllllllll you be puttin' in WERK.

First off, sorry for the terrible lighting; I weighed out my options in my head after I filmed this and saw how terrible the lighting was (it was a sunny day, and I got all set up to film and it started to rain! UGH!).  Option 1: cancel this entire video. Option 2: edit and upload it despite it being kind of crappy and at least get a video up.

So.

I chose option #2.

Hoorah?  Please say hoorah.

Secondly, this is clearly not a tutorial.  I shared the products I used in the video quickly, but I'm mainly just showing you my everyday face/make-up routine.  I often use BB cream (especially in the summer) but used foundation for the sake of the video (bc sometimes I used that too :)

WEAR SUNSCREEN my friends.  I rock this everyday, it's my moisturizer and SPF in one and goes on before anything else.  I've been wearing sunscreen on my face and neck everyday for over six years and haven't been in a tanning bed for longer than that.  PROTECT YO FACE.

Hope you enjoyed and sorry for the shoddy-ness...I had a ghetto-esque set up of boxes piled on top of each others to prop up a mirror and can I just say applying liquid liner on camera is next to impossible!?  It is.  Trust moi.

Okay bye.
