Do you ever wear the belt that came with something? I never do. Okay, it's super rare. This is no exception. I was itching to pair this navy and white dress with a yellow belt but didn't have one. I looked through all my belts and the closest thing was a light lime green belt. That is until I remembered I had this belt, which I don't think I've ever worn, that came with this dress. Perfect! Done & done.
I am seriously itching for warmer weather so I can get back to taking photos outside, this is seriously a tease.
Finally, this dress was purchased on a recently shopping trip with my girl friend. It's from Zellers. Yes, Zellers. I paid $35 for it, and it's lined. Pretty, 'eh? And no, that's not my real hair.
I wear this blazer a lot but I never roll up the sleeves to reveal the you're-suppose-to-reveal pattern (stripes). I just feel like everyone and their mother rolls up their blazer sleeves, that's 'the look' and I don't necessarily want to be 'the look', I want to make my own look. I made an exception this time because I loved the idea of the two patterns playing with each other (the dress and the stripes).

After seeing Maegan's DIY for adding fur to your shoes (and boots), I immediately jumped in my car (okay, I showered first) and headed out on a mission to get some faux fur from Fabricland. Maegan used faux fur trim for hers, but unfortunately the only trim at my store was white and dark purple (which I contemplated, but passed up). I really wanted a tan coloured fur, or as a second resort black or grey. I left the fabric store feeling defeated but then remembered Walmart sold faux fur rugs. I took a chance and amongst the hot pink, lime green, black, white and dark grey there was (woohoo!) this tan colour. $20 for the rug makes it cheaper than buying faux fur by the meter at the fabric store ($38/m) too - score. Excited, I ran home and started cutting apart the rug and voila. Head to Meagan's blog to check out the full DIY.

Yesterday while at Walmart I couldn't resist these two Revlon nail polishes. Now it should be known that I'm a bit of an OPI snob. Since starting to purchase the brand over two years ago, I've rarely bought anything else (except the odd Wet'N'Wild and Rimmel colours here and there). Now that's not to say I'm constantly buying nail polishes. Au contraire. At $10 a pop, I have to be selective of which colours I purchase because it's like a treat when I purchase one. All that to say, I bought these ones for $4 (we'll see how long they last).
When I buy nail polish, I always look at the brush. I like fat brushes (aka, less swipes per nail) and was immediately turned off by Revlon's thin brushes. However, I said to myself I shouldn't discriminate (haha) and decided to purchase. With freshly painted nails, I'd say the brushes aren't terrible, the formula goes on very smoothly and offers great coverage. I also found it dried a bit quicker than OPI. I did two coats, plus a base and top coat (Rimmel 60 second top coat). I love the pewter colour, and did my left ring finger in a more silvery colour. Know what I love even more? The price.
PS - Hand shots are soo awkward. Seriously. I'm like, 'Are those my hands? Ick.' Also, I'm definitely a nail biter but have been on-and-off letting my nails grow for the last year (I even had long nails at my wedding - and they were my own!). However, I've been stressed lately and in turn, ruined my nails. Bah humbug.
I was shocked to receive an email from MTV saying they wanted to feature me
in their MTV Style section - what an honour. Check it out here.

This sweater has been getting tons-o-play. I bought it on Boxing Day (50% off for $50) and it's definitely been a go-to... funny how this is the first time I've photographed it (blogger fail).
So it's about that time of year: I'm seriously craving a winter vacation right about now. Everyone is going away down south to get away from this frigid weather and I'm stuck here. I guess it's getting more and more mild but I can't help but daydream about going somewhere sunny. Even my parents are on vacation saying things like, 'You're sure you can't just fly down?', and, 'It's not the same without you'. Seriously painful.
However, we aren't taking a winter holiday this year as our friends (and former roomates) are getting married this summer in British Columbia and we will be traveling there (side note: so excited for this as I've never been and have always wanted to go), fun 'eh? And get this, the bride and groom are staying in town after the wedding to play tour guide to all of us (aka, the friends) before heading off on their honeymoon (um, thoughtful much?!). Are any of you going away this winter? (Or are you one of those lucky people who live in a warm climate year 'round? PS, I hate you).
We went out to one of our 'all-you-can-eat' sushi spots the other night and had a great time. We thought it'd be cheaper because it was a weekday (whereas weekends are more expensive). As it turns out, it was $1 cheaper (one dollar). Oh well. It was delish and I discovered my new favourite: rhe rainbow roll. Okay, second favourite because I'll never love anything more than the spider roll.

Outdoor outfit shots! Finally! I took advantage of the amazing weather last Friday and snapped these shots after work. The sun was shinning, the wind was blowing and most importantly, the snow was melting. It was a balmy 10 degrees Celcius (that's 50 degrees F for you American folk) which is ridiculously unheard of for here. People were driving with their (car) windows down, walking around without jackets and even wearing open-toed shoes (okay, maybe that was just me - but for the record, I did have boots with me but they were so unnecessary). However, Mother Nature came to her senses the next day and snapped back with temperatures of -10 C. So much for the heat wave.
See, I told you these jeans were long! Woohoo!

Look! My new boots! I finally wore them. Yes, you read correctly, I haven't worn them despite receiving them for Christmas because I was a little wary about the height of the heel on these. I'd begged husband to get them for me for Christmas but had only coveted them from afar (aka online). When I opened the box, I was ecstatic... until I saw the height of the heel. Definitely five inches, maybe a tad more... Being 5'11 I try to draw the line at 4.75 inches. No, it doesn't make a huge difference for most, but I'm tall enough as it is and I can certainly feel insecure when I'm towering over everyone and have people commenting left, right, and centre about how tall I am. That said, I love heels and won't give them up, I've learned to love my height (I can't change it so I embrace it) but I have to draw the line somewhere and that line is at 4.75 inches.
However, I love and loved these boots so much I couldn't return them. I decided the perfect opportunity would be to wear them out while with my tallest friend and it worked out well because she wore heels as well and we were the same height. Love it. Not only that, they were pretty comfy despite the narrow sole pad and I shopped till I dropped in them (with back-up flats in my bag, of course, which I didn't end up needing - score).

Update: my outfit ended up being feature on MTV! Check it out HERE.
My girlfriend and I went shopping on Saturday night and had one hell of a successful evening. Among several other things (which I will share soon), I found some new jeans. Jeans are something that when you find 'em and they're fantastic, (personally) you should get them (if you can afford it). It's not everyday that you find awesome jeans and when you're looking for awesome jeans best believe you won't find them (so frustrating).
Onto the jeans! First off, I found both pairs at Winners (Canada's TJ Maxx, for all you US readers). So I first found the Foxy jeans and while I don't mind this brand, I've never owned a pair nor found ones that I loved. I tried them on and they were super long. They are a straight-leg skinny and so long that on my toes they go past my heels (so rare for a tall chick like moi - 5'11). They came with chain and elastic suspenders, which might seem cool, but I will be removing them as they're just not for me (with jeans, at least). I bought a size 9, 35" length and they were $25 (amazing!).
The second pair I found in the clearance section and they are almost a fancy denim as they have some sheen to them. The brand is Laguna Beach Jean Co., which I've never heard of before (upon further research, they are the 'Crystal Cove' style and you can buy them here for $159). They are hand stitched with great stitching details around the waistband, pockets and down the legs. They are a straight-leg skinny and even longer than the Foxy jeans, by a tad. I bought a size 29 and they are super snug at the waist but it was the last pair and I was in love. I paid $46 (regularly priced at $60).

The lobby of the hotel we stayed at during our weekend away was so beautiful I asked my mom to snap these shots so I could take advantage. We stopped at H&M on our way into town and despite packing my 'party' outfit, I ended up rocking an entirely new outfit instead. Enter my new H&M finds. Jeans. Dress (worn as a top). Blazer. Yipee!
Today is the day my match-making efforts come into play. I have set up a good friend of mine with someone I work with. I'm pretty excited they are going out this evening, totally cute. Who knows what will stem from this, but either way, a fun night for both I'm sure. I personally have never been set up, have you?
Lastly, I know someone anonymously asked me what these boots looked like IRL on my Christmas Goodies post. While I've worn them quite a bit, I never snapped any shots of them (oops!). Next time maybe I'll just twit-pic the request. Do you follow me on Twitter?

Happy Valentines' Day! I am always excited to use any holiday to dress up as an excuse and Valentines' Day is no exception. I love the idea of pinks and reds and going either sexy or sweet, however, more often than not as the day arrives I cannot for the life of me put together an outfit I'm satisfied with. And what do I end up with? An entire black outfit with a sole red belt. WTF? I couldn't get more creative than this?! Ugh. I initially started out wearing these pants with this outfit but wasn't feeling it at all. Ultimately, time was running short so I swapped in my new H&M pants from my weekend away and called it an outfit.
Sidenote: totally rockin' the red lip (resolution alert!), I mean, what better excuse than Valentines' Day, right? Well, not so great for kissing, but whatevs... regardless, it's so-so and husband agreed he prefers no lipstick.
Husband calls the middle shot, 'The waxer' - yeah, you can probably
get an idea of what he's talking about - totally classy, just like my pose.
