Outdoor outfit shots!  Finally!  I took advantage of the amazing weather last Friday and snapped these shots after work.  The sun was shinning, the wind was blowing and most importantly, the snow was melting.  It was a balmy 10 degrees Celcius (that's 50 degrees F for you American folk) which is ridiculously unheard of for here.  People were driving with their (car) windows down, walking around without jackets and even wearing open-toed shoes (okay, maybe that was just me - but for the record, I did have boots with me but they were so unnecessary).  However, Mother Nature came to her senses the next day and snapped back with temperatures of -10 C.  So much for the heat wave.

See, I told you these jeans were long!  Woohoo!

Happy Valentines' Day!  I am always excited to use any holiday to dress up as an excuse and Valentines' Day is no exception.  I love the idea of pinks and reds and going either sexy or sweet, however, more often than not as the day arrives I cannot for the life of me put together an outfit I'm satisfied with.  And what do I end up with?  An entire black outfit with a sole red belt.  WTF?  I couldn't get more creative than this?!  Ugh.  I initially started out wearing these pants with this outfit but wasn't feeling it at all.  Ultimately, time was running short so I swapped in my new H&M pants from my weekend away and called it an outfit.

Sidenote: totally rockin' the red lip (resolution alert!), I mean, what better excuse than Valentines' Day, right?  Well, not so great for kissing, but whatevs... regardless, it's so-so and husband agreed he prefers no lipstick.

Husband calls the middle shot, 'The waxer' - yeah, you can probably
get an idea of what he's talking about - totally classy, just like my pose.

What's a post without words?  Um.  A wordless post?  You guys, it's so late, I'm so tired and I just need to go to sleep.  You don't mind if I skip the words this time and leave you with just some pictures instead?

Lovely readers, I did it again: I cut a shirt into a skirt.  I had this Joe Fresh 3/4 sleeve scoop neck top sitting in my closet for a year or two.  I really liked it, I did, it just didn't like me.  So, during my closet clean out (a couple weekends ago) I was debating what to do with it.  I mean, I wasn't ready to part ways with it, not by any means, but at the same time, it was getting worn.  It needed a reinvention.  So, with my trusty scissors, I cut a straight line from under the armpit and made it into a skirt.  Oh, and I'm loooving this skirt.  Loving!  Others were loving it too.  The skirt was getting tons of love.  I feel like before I give away any more clothes I must ensure they cannot be cut into skirts, because if they can, well look out.  I mean, looks like I'll be adding a few more skirts to my wardrobe for free.  And on that note, I have a tutorial/DIY coming on this so you too can make your very own skirt from a shirt - so check back this weekend for that.

So I'm wearing this jacket for probably the fourth or fifth time.  It's J.Crew, I picked it up at the thrift score, I mean store, and paid like, peanuts (which technically translates to $7).  It was a little big so I put it in the dryer, that helped a bit, not enough, but I just belt it and that makes up for it.  Anyways.  While working away, I don't know what prompted me to look at my armpit, but I did and what did I find?!  A large hole.  A hole in my sweet J.Crew blazer.  I felt embarrassed.  How many times had I worn this jacket and not realized?!  Had anyone seen?!  No wonder it was at the thrift store!  This must be fixed, I thought to myself, or I'll have to spend the remainder of the day keeping my arms down (not an easy feat for someone as enthusiastic as me).  I swiftly check the other armpit and sure enough it had a hole too - the exact same size!  So I took the jacket off, pulled out my box of safety pins and totally safety-pinned those suckers shut.  Now if I would just figure out how to thread my new sewing machine I could fix it in a less ghetto way.

I was thinking about making one of my resolutions to be to wear more (dangly) earrings.  I always wear my cz / diamante studs and it's very rare for me to wear anything else.  I'm much more of a necklace / bracelet person and while some girls can pull of the big necklace and earring look, it's not for me.  I always feel naked without a necklace but I have many earrings and I should try and get some use out of them.  These earrings are actually a favourite pair and would you believe I've had them for over seven years?!  I also bought them in a plum colour and have never seen anything similar since (which.is.awesome).  Are you a (dangly) earring person?

It's rare for me to not incorporate colour into my outfit, but I felt like doing something monochromatic on this day and really love how it turned out (new fave personal trend?  We shall see... ).  I was also pretty much a poster board for Mexx on this day, which is rare as I tend to mix as much as I can.  However, I just purchased this top on Boxing Day and have had this skirt for two years (as if I'm trying to say, 'It's not like I saw it on the mannequin and made it mine' - ha).

Happy 1.11.11 !

I'll admit, the minute I saw these pants on Blair I was in awe and to find out they were from Old Navy (you mean, within my budget?!) and still available?! Hello!  I went out and hooked a sistah up, and by sistah, I mean myself.  While I normally wear skirts and dresses to work, it's nice to actually find a pair of pants that fit well and I love - a rare combo.

So I ran into this guy at work, that I don't see very often, while wearing the salsa dress... he's French and while I speak it, we were talking in English (a surefire way to ensure having some messages lost in translation) and he asked me if I was having a baby (I know it's a flowy dress, but...) and it must have been the shocked look on my face because he quickly retracted his question and realized what he'd said.  What he meant to ask was when I was planning on having a baby, not if I was having a baby.  Anyways, we had a good laugh about it, but geeze, the baby questions don't stop as soon as you get married!

I bought this dress in the early summer, from a thrift store, and was ecstatic to find it.  I remember when Gap was selling this dress, several years ago, and while back then I passed it up, I didn't make that mistake twice (mind you, had I not passed it up then, I wouldn't have scored it many months ago for $7!).  I absolutely love this dress and was itching to winterize it, but really wanted some navy tights to pair with it.  Enter my new navy tights (from Winners), purrrfect.

So less than funny story: when I went to shoot these photos my necklace was being temperamental, and by temperamental, I mean it kept falling off (it's this necklace, which is long, but I double it up and hook it together with a similar sized silver hoop earring - genius, right?  Not so much...).  I knew I'd get some shots in my jacket first, so I put the necklace in my pocket for when I got down to the main attraction, I mean outfit.  Sure enough, I completely forgot the necklace in my pocket and didn't realize until I was editing these photos.  Clearly that necklace was the one element that made this outfit, sheesh.

My mom always told me, 'Blue and green shouldn't be seen unless there's
something in between (or in the washing machine)' - do you agree?

Ahhh, the ol' black & navy trick.  It's no trick, it's actually my new fave colour combo.  However, I know, I know, this isn't exactly navy, it's a bit brighter, but, the effect is there.

I was complaining on Twitter the other day about how I'm not ready to succumb to tights.  It's not that I don't like them, it's just that once I put them on, they are staying on.  For six months.  I'm not kidding.  Winter is looooong and I'm a huge fan of skirts, which means I'm rockin' tights three to five times a week.  That's a lot of restriction.  However, I felt a little silly yesterday (even though, in my defense, it warmed up in the afternoon to a balmy +11 degrees Celcius) rockin' a skirt and fur jacket... without tights.  So, today, against all my might (especially since I wanted to wear skinnies but didn't have any other than jeans ... I need to do some laundry), I took the half-way-there step and pulled on some leggings.  This is sort of cheating, because really, I wear leggings in all seasons, but, they were used this time as a tight, so there.  Next up:  closed toe tights.

Oh yeah, I went and did some shopping on my lunch hour today and while browsing the racks, an elderly woman told me I was 'cheating' on my height, due to how high these wedges are.  Sorry lady, but news flash, I'm already 5'11, no cheating required.

Upon arriving at work the other day I realized I'd worn a very similar variation of this outfit  in the spring.  Funny I didn't realize that while getting dressed.

In other news, I took a really bad fall on Thursday night.  I was heading out to meet a friend and had thrown on some A&F sweatpants I'd cut into capris.  I slipped on my flip flops and headed out.  It was pouring rain and we have a deck on the front of our house.  While standing under the awning of the house at the door, I clicked my car doors unlocked and went to make a run for it.  Bad idea.  The combination of rain, on wood and me in flip flops made the deck super slippery, and with my second (run) step, my feet flew out from under me and I landed at the top step (of two) on my tailbone and slid down the stairs and rolled onto the pavement.  I swear my feet were higher than my head and it just happened so fast.  So there I was, lying on our driveway, screaming in pain, in the pouring rain.  It only took a few seconds to realize I was all alone (hubs was working) and I seriously needed to get up, if I could.  Just then, a man came running up our driveway (he'd heard my screams, but hadn't seen it happen) with his dog.  I was so grateful to see someone.  He helped me up, carried me onto the deck and sat me our deck furniture.  I sat there sobbing, covered in dirt and all wet.  He stayed with me until I was able to get up and go inside.  I guess my adrenaline was pumping because I walked into the house (in a lot of pain), grabbed a gel ice pack and layed down on the living room floor, crying hysterically.  I called my parents and they rushed over, with my sister (who was over there for dinner that night).  I layed in the living room crying and icing my tailbone / back, in so much pain.  Finally, after about a hour of laying there, my sister helped me roll onto my side so I could take some Advil from my mom.  About 15 minutes later, I tried to pull myself onto my knees with her help and the help of a chair.   Eventually, with lots of pain, I was able to sit on the chair (with one buttcheek hanging off as I really did a number to the left side of my tailbone / lower back).  I was unable to walk, and moving was really awful.  My sister had to drag me to the bathroom and eventually up to our room to go to bed.  On Friday I went to the chiropractor (my sister took me) and had x-rays done and an adjustment (and I'm not one who normally goes to the chiro, just FYI).  Upon leaving, I was walking with barely any limping and actually felt better.  However, still very very sore in my butt, back and neck.

Today I'm still in pain and have a hard time getting comfortable (sitting, standing and lying down hurts), but, it is definitely getting better.  I'm on the mend and am able to walk around normally, do stairs, etc.  Just trying to not make any sudden movements, I have to turn my whole body to talk to people (versus just turning my head) and am moving slowly.  However, I will survive and I am just so grateful to that man who helped me, and that I have such amazing friends and family to help me.

{ just got these babies fixed - new heel caps }
