Okay, I think I'm turning over a new leaf here, I've jumped aboard the chic trainers wagon and I don't want to get off!  When I ordered these olive green sneaks, it actually took everything in my power not to order them in the light grey as well!

I'm a big fan of high tops in the gym, cool looking sneakers like Supras (a fave pair seen on me here) and my Nike Blazers are my jam.  They stay put while lifting weights, but also add a little edge to your look.  That said, I'm feeling a big pull towards futuristic looking trainers and was reluctant at first, but now I'm fully on board.

Hi ladies, today's post is all about taking basics you may already have in your closet, and transitioning them for spring; the cool to warm weather.

As a neutrals lover, I'm usually starting the base of my outfit with some sort of black, white or denim for the bottoms (the odd time with olive green).  Layering is key in this weather, so grab an oversized cardigan, throw a scarf in your bag and to make the outfit more warm-weather appropriate, I like to pair with a warm weather shoe.  Pumps aren't necessarily for warm weather, but barring your ankles are, so let them breathe.

It's Tuesday!  Last night, after a swapping a few sad emojis (ie. about vacation being over) with my girlfriend, we decided to do a impromptu dinner at my place.  I hadn't grabbed groceries and had an errand after work that prevented me from doing so, which meant I needed to whip something up from the cupboards.  #yikes

We went with a Meatless Monday theme, and I made us spinach and parmesan egg-white omelettes along with five-bean (instead of chickpea) cakes and we called it good.  Throwing together a meal without shopping for it isn't exactly my forte, but passing up good company wasn't an option so we made it work!  What do you girls cook in a pinch?  I'm always curious to hear what people eat for dinners.

Good morning from sunny Cancun!  I'm here on vacation with Marco and my two closest girlfriends and we are enjoying the sunshine and heat--our hair, not so much!

We are here for the week and I will have a full recap of our vacation upon return.  Apologies for the lack of Weekend Snaps yesterday, but we arrived here Saturday afternoon and have been doing that vacation thang.

Gooooood morning!  How is your week going?

Last night I hit the gym and wandered around the mall in search of a couple new pieces for our trip this weekend, but didn't have much luck.  We are escaping the snow and heading off to Mexico--something that's been planned much longer than the last trip (which was a little more unexpected).  I'm trying to get creative with items in my closet that I already own, but so want to buy all the new things (must. be. strong. for. house. fund).

We are so excited to get away for a week, and this time my two best girlfriends are coming with us!  We keep joking about, 'Marco and his harem of women' -- ha!  I'll be sharing the trip on Instastories so follow along there if you'd like.

I'm just going to address the elephant in the room that is the massive amount of snow we still have--but like I promised last week, after this week, we are fully moving into the spring outfits!  I've already shot a few looks with Lisa when we had an uber mild day not long ago and if the crazy fog we had tonight is any indication, warm weather is around the corner!

Onto the look--I'm back with the camo pants again...

O U T F I T  D E T A I L S  :  SWEATER (SIMILAR)  |  CHOKER  |  ZARA SCARF (SIMILAR)  |  LEGGINGS  |  BOOTS  |  BAG (BUDGET FRIENDLY)

Today's look is an easy throw-on-and-go when you really don't know what to wear.  These leggings have been a great piece for day-to-day wear, versus in the gym (I gave my full review here) and I love how thick they.  Throw on a sweater that covers your booty, over the knee boots, a scarf and you're done.

Hope you girls have a great Thursday, I'm heading out to dinner tonight with my girlfriends.  We try to meet once a month, the four of us, and since this time it falls in my birthday month, I got to pick the spot (margaritas anyone?).  We're almost at the weekend, hold tight!

Happy mid-week, how's it going?!  This week has been stressful and I've been pulling late nights (by choice) and suffering a little the following day #nightowlsbenightowls

Today's look is for my girls who are still in a cooler climate--real talk, all the bloggers sporting light weight jackets and bare legs have me super jealous.  We still have major snow on the ground and I'm so over this winter!  So, I have a few more cool weather looks to share, because I know I can't be alone, but will be going full Spring style on you come April.

Speaking of, can you believe we are at the end of March?!  How the heck did that happen?  Is it just me or did March fly by?  I'll be doing my usual round up of favourites next week but would love any suggestions on items to try in April if you have any--specifically I'd love to find a daily self-tanner lotion that doesn't contain parabens.  I was planning to grab this one (to use in between my weekly-ish self-tanner) but alas it has parabens, and I'm trying to clean up my beauty routine with those suckers, so let me know!

A few weeks back, Shopbop held a huge sale & I am normally pretty good at resisting, but this time I went a little ham on the add to cart button!  However, since they offer free shipping & free returns, I figured I had nothing to lose and snagged a bunch of awesome pieces.

Bonus: if you're Canadian, like me, they'll include the duty up front, if you'd like, and reimburse upon return, versus getting a surprise at the door and then having to submit that invoice if you do make return.

So with that said, as promised, I've tried everything on, styled it and am sharing with you today all the details on sizing and more.  Some pieces are from my own closet, but I'm linking them as well, so let's jump in.

We are back from the beach and into the snow, and that is definitely not an understatement when we arrived in a massive blizzard on Tuesday night!  The flight boards at the Cancun airport were full of cancelled and delayed flights heading north, and we were lucky to have no delays and make it in because I think had our flight been any later, we would have been staying an extra night at the airport!

I had full plans to shoot some spring looks for the blog upon return and we had to cancel the shoot due to weather.  All the pieces in stores have me so excited for warmer months but this weather just isn't cooperating!

Onto the look--when in doubt, all black, or at least that's my motto on mornings when I'm rushing around with 'nothing to wear'.  My sweater dress is super old, but I just scooped up this one as a replacement and I love the it's more boxy, which will be great for pairing with over the knee boots, without looking too sexy.  Plus, it's a great time to scoop winter pieces up for next year since the sale prices are so great.

I've had these camo pants in my closet for years.  Case in point, right before Marco & I moved in together, an outfit I still love from 2014, and I brought them when we went to Italy for the first time.   I keep coming back to them, confirming they are a great closet staple.  I wish I had the exact pair to link, but they are so old, I'm sharing some fun ones in stores below.

I've been seeing camo pants popping up again for spring and brought mine out while it's still cold.  I usually pair camo with neutrals, but also love it with blush pink or a pop of orange.  They would look really great paired with over the knee boots and when the temperatures warm up, I'll be rocking these new heels I just scooped up with a grey tank or flirty off the shoulder number.

I have been getting my money's worth out of all my over the knee boots this year--when the roads are dry, it's the perfect time to pull them out for style and warmth (without ruining them in the snow and salt).  That said, now is the perfect time to scoop up a pair because they are all going on sale!

Mine are from a few years ago (seen here in 2014) but because almost all heel and toe shapes are going strong right now, you really can't go wrong in whichever style you choose.  Personally I'm a big fan of the slightly thicker heel and an almond toe.  If you're uncertain on what to choose, I'm linking a bunch of OTK styles I'm loving below, or you could always tweet me a pic and I'd be happy to help out while you're shopping.

Hi ladies!  Hope you're having a great week, we are almost to the weekend!  Marco has been away for work, and I've been taking advantage of the evenings solo to start the new series This is Us.  Have you seen it!?  I binge watched four episodes the first night and am totally hooked.  The twists are insane, but it's also pretty emotional too.

Tonight, I have a girlfriend coming over to hang and then tomorrow we are practically at the weekend, so yipee!  Today feels like one of those days that is just going right, you know?  Lately, I've been kind of having some down days, and it feels good to have a shift.

Onto the round up, it's been a while since I've done one of these, and I've been trying to incorporate more off-the-cuff posts on IG along with the usual outfits so let's jump in!

Everybody is talking Spring vibes and I'm over here like... well, still freezing my butt off!  It's still very much winter around these parts, which means no open toes anytime soon, so today a little realness in winter dressing.

Ottawa is known for very cold winters, so if you're coming for a visit between December and March, you need to be prepared.  A warm winter jacket is an absolute must, but layering is key if you're going to be out in the elements for longer than just running to and from the car.  I threw on a shearling vest underneath my jacket for added warmth--when the jacket is worn open, it adds an element of interest and cool layering vibes.  Done up, and it's functional and warm.

Boots are a must, and if you're battling the elements, as much as a I love a good ankle boot, the flat over the knee styles are great for added warmth and tromping around the snowy sidewalks while still looking put together.

Lastly, the accessories--a hat will do wonders to keep the heat locked in (especially if your jacket doesn't have a hood), and the one thing you didn't inside my bag are a good pair of mitts.  I usually got for the knit variety, and have been known to layer two pairs for added warmth.

Hi ladies, today's look is an easy throw-on-and-go look, that looks way more pulled together than it actually is.  This winter, I have been all about sweaters and skinny jeans, then switching things up between an ankle bootie or an over the knee boot.  Throw on a choker and you're stylish and on trend--simple.

We are chugging along and have made it to the mid-week point!  How is your week going?

Last night Marco and I had a super low key evening--I hit the gym after work, then we ordered Thai take-out and watched a rom-com; which for the record, I can never convince him to watch, and he ended up liking it more than I did!  I think it's safe to say I've turned into an action movie lover  #shocking

Onto the outfit!  I'm totally in love with this little hoodie.  The sleeves are extra long and I love the gold hardwear at the end of the draw strings.  It's kind of like a chic hoodie, which makes it easier to dress up for brunch or a more casual date night.  I layered it over a long men's tank I've had in my closet for a while & thick leggings.  To jazz things up, I added the fringe boot and a beanie because who needs a coat

You guys, this bell sleeve sweater was on my wish list for months and I finally pulled the trigger back in December, and since picking it up from the post office last month, I'm in love.  Bonus, because it's on sale now!

I think the bell sleeve trend is only going to continue into the warmer months, and I could see myself pairing this with some denim cut offs, if we ever make it Spring.  That said, for now, it's perfect on it's own or with a cami layered underneath.  The v is pretty deep, so I like the extra coverage the lace adds.  I sized down and went with a small, as I find Free People tends to run a little big.

Hi ladies!  Today I'm sharing another untraditional Valentine's Day look (or Galentine's Day, if you're planning to celebrate with girlfriends).  I'm definitely a pants girl and since we're in full on winter over here, baring my legs isn't exactly my idea of a good time.

I have always loved flared pants, and have several pairs in my wardrobe--some newer and some from over the years.  I usually opt for skinny jeans, but there is something about a flared pant that is so effortlessly chic.  I went with a plunging neckline sweater and kept the colours feminine but had to throw in the edgy jacket.  I love the unexpected colour pairing of the blush and plum.

Also, this would pair just fine underneath your coat, then you can choose to keep the jacket on or off depending on the temperature, if you're headed out to a restaurant or romantic evening.

Happy February ladies, how is your week going?  I'm feeling so much better than I was on Monday and Tuesday and so thankful because today we are heading to Whistler, British Columbia!  We planned this trip before Christmas and have been so excited.

I was seriously worried when I got so ill on Sunday evening that we might have to cancel--seriously, I was feeling that awful, but I think sleeping all day on and off on Monday, and spending the entire day Tuesday in bed (aside from packing that evening) helped ten fold.  Additionally, I've been taking tons of vitamins daily, for about a month now in an attempt to prevent getting sick like last time.  Obviously it didn't prevent it, but maybe it's helped it not last as long.  I'm going to be doing a full video on all the vitamins and supplements I've incorporated into my daily routine soon!

Finally, the outfit!  This faux leather jacket has become a new favourite--when I tried it on during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last July, it was a piece I was most looking forward to.  I wasn't sold on it then, but after the prices went back up, I totally regretting not getting it!  Fast forward to Boxing Day, and they marked it down so I snagged it.  It's such an expensive looking piece for a great price + still on sale.

O U T F I T  D E T A I L S  :  FLORAL CARDIGAN -- ON SALE!  |  JOE FRESH CAMI (SIMILAR, SIMILAR)  |  NECKLACE  |  MEXX SKIRT (SIMILAR, LOVE THIS)  |  OVER THE KNEE BOOTS -- 50% OFF!  | VINTAGE CLUTCH

I'm one of those people who love Valentine's Day, and it doesn't have to be over the top, but just acknowledging it and doing something special for your sweetie is totally up my alley.  Marco feels a little differently, but he puts on a brave face for me!

One thing you typically won't find me in for Valentine's Day is a tight red dress, but give me a leather skirt, or a flowy top and I'm in.  This outfit is a little off the beaten path, but it still works for the special day.  It's definitely date-night appropriate and this floral cardigan is such a stunning piece and now it's half price!  I had it on my wish list for Christmas and my parents got it for me, I was really excited when I opened it.  An alternative way to wear this would be to pair the cardigan over a little black dress--so simple but just adds a pop of interest.

Another question I've gotten on this, 'What if I'm short?'  You can still wear a long piece like this; it's a total misconception that petite girls can't wear maxi styles.  The best way though, is to lengthen the look by pairing with heels--whether a pump or a tall boot, you want to elongate your leg for the best look.
