This sweater has been getting tons-o-play.  I bought it on Boxing Day (50% off for $50) and it's definitely been a go-to... funny how this is the first time I've photographed it (blogger fail).

So it's about that time of year: I'm seriously craving a winter vacation right about now.  Everyone is going away down south to get away from this frigid weather and I'm stuck here.  I guess it's getting more and more mild but I can't help but daydream about going somewhere sunny.  Even my parents are on vacation saying things like, 'You're sure you can't just fly down?', and, 'It's not the same without you'.  Seriously painful.

However, we aren't taking a winter holiday this year as our friends (and former roomates) are getting married this summer in British Columbia and we will be traveling there (side note: so excited for this as I've never been and have always wanted to go), fun 'eh?  And get this, the bride and groom are staying in town after the wedding to play tour guide to all of us (aka, the friends) before heading off on their honeymoon (um, thoughtful much?!).  Are any of you going away this winter? (Or are you one of those lucky people who live in a warm climate year 'round?  PS, I hate you).

Look!  My new boots!  I finally wore them.  Yes, you read correctly, I haven't worn them despite receiving them for Christmas because I was a little wary about the height of the heel on these.  I'd begged husband to get them for me for Christmas but had only coveted them from afar (aka online).  When I opened the box, I was ecstatic... until I saw the height of the heel.  Definitely five inches, maybe a tad more... Being 5'11 I try to draw the line at 4.75 inches.  No, it doesn't make a huge difference for most, but I'm tall enough as it is and I can certainly feel insecure when I'm towering over everyone and have people commenting left, right, and centre about how tall I am.  That said, I love heels and won't give them up, I've learned to love my height (I can't change it so I embrace it) but I have to draw the line somewhere and that line is at 4.75 inches.

However, I love and loved these boots so much I couldn't return them.  I decided the perfect opportunity would be to wear them out while with my tallest friend and it worked out well because she wore heels as well and we were the same height.  Love it.  Not only that, they were pretty comfy despite the narrow sole pad and I shopped till I dropped in them (with back-up flats in my bag, of course, which I didn't end up needing - score).

Update:  my outfit ended up being feature on MTV!  Check it out HERE.

Jacob dress, Urban Original faux fur shrug, Sirens leggings, Ardene necklace & Forever 21 bracelet

This is the dress I bought on Boxing Day from Jacob.  I was so excited about it and it was my most expensive purchase of the day at $50 (it was 50% off).  It's made from silk and was a great tunic length, loose fitting but still skimmed the body and was just overall chic.  You know what's not chic?  When your dress rips up the back (oh, that sounds familiar) within the first hour of wearing it.  Awesome.  Not.  Yeah and we had already left the house when my dress split about 6 inches at the top.  Fortunately the fur shrug covered it until we got home, and good thing because when I leaned across the dinner table, rrrrrrriiiiiippppppp, the little-hole-that-could got even bigger.

I went home, steamed the dress (why?  I don't know...), grabbed the tag and receipt and headed back to the store feeling defeated.  I knew it was the only one they had in my size so the chances of getting another one were slim (but would I want another one anyways considering what happened?).  When I pulled the dress out, before even showing the girl what was going on in the back, she jumped in and said, 'Did it split up the back?'  Why yes, yes it did, and she swiftly grabbed another dress, just like mine, that someone had returned earlier with the exact-same-problem.  Oh well.  Not meant to be.  I'll buy something for spring with my $50 in-store credit.  And hey, at least I got these fab outfit photos out of it.

While visiting my BFF in Toronto I was telling her about my newest colour combo obsession, navy and black.  She said that she was always told, as a kid, that if you wore the two together, you'd look like a bruise.  I never heard that before, although I did hear other 'fashion rules' (ex. blue and green should never be seen...., etc.).  And then she put on a green top with a navy blazer (and looked awesome).

So this sweater is just like this one, but navy, which I cut in half to make into a cardigan.  I was so impressed with myself (wow, I used scissors) and excited to wear this one.  I mean, I know it wasn't hard to do, but I took a sweater I hadn't worn in a couple years, and I've been wearing it quite a bit now - how's that for shopping your closet!?

So lastly, how was everyone's weekend?  I know I didn't post, I was pretty sick all weekend long, just feeling crappy and laying low (which you might think would inspire a post, but I was just trying to stay away from the computer for once... which isn't easy since I'm obsessed!).  I did, however, get a bunch of cleaning done around the house and a ton of laundry - it's like I have all the 'good' and 'favourite' items ready again! Yipee!  I need to pick my Christmas outfit this week.  I stay at my parent's house on Christmas eve so I have to plan and pack something for that day.  The last two years it was a dress of some sort, with leggings... this year?  I don't know, I can't predict the future, but I could see it involving leggings.

I got home on Tuesday night and immediately undressed and climbed into bed.  I was exhausted.  Sometimes I just do that, get into bed as soon as I get home (and we're talking late afternoon here, it's not like I'm working till 9pm).  Last night was no exception.  Fortunately, husband was home and he made me dinner and snacks which we ate together in bed while watching Sunday's episode of Dexter.  So enjoyable and just what I needed.

Even though summer is fast approaching, we seemed to have shifted into some cooler (rainier) weather.  Normally I wouldn't image breaking out (closed-toe) boots in June (when you live in a climate that gets snow for at least 5 months of the year, you really relish not wearing boots the rest of the year), but it was a cool, overcast day, so there.  Do you have any seasonal faux-pas?

This weekend called for sun, sun and more sun, but come mid-afternoon on Saturday it just poured.  Fortunately, the weather was much nicer on Sunday (super humid though, ick) although I forced myself to stay inside and clean all day.  Super productive, not so super fun.

Well, as predicted, it was a super busy weekend.  I spent Friday night shopping for a birthday gift, as planned and scored big time.  I was able to get my future SIL a yellow trench, a thin-knit red halter with ruffles, a pair of drop earrings, an army-inspired sleeveless vest, a pink pashmina and a gift certificate for her to buy herself a new Thomas Sabo charm for the bracelet she has.  She loved it all, which was great.

Saturday we went to the jeweller and started designing our wedding bands (very excited!) and then got some poutine and made our way back home.  That evening was the birthday party.

Lastly, Sunday, we registered (again) at another store and then met with our venue.  We hit up my parent's house for dinner and my future in-laws came over so we could all discuss the upcoming plans.  It was a late night but very productive.  How did your weekends shape up?

* PS - did you notice the shredded top I'm wearing?  It's a new item available for purchase in my Etsy Shop!

Saturday night was a great evening: We went out to celebrate AT's & KL's birthdays.  We started out with dinner with about 18 of their closest friends and then headed to a comedy show.  Afterwards, we had a few drinks at a local bar and eventually hit up a super-packed nightclub (where I got all the ladies in for free!).  Happy birthday friends!
