Last weekend a few girlfriends and I threw a surprise engagement party for our friends.  From the get go, we knew we wanted it to be nautical with a blue, white and gold colour scheme.  It was something we planned for almost two months and we got a really awesome reaction from the bride and groom-to-be!

I wanted to share a few of the things we did, the decor and how it all came together, plus a few DIY's if you'd like to see.

I threw my best friend a baby shower last weekend and I wanted to share some of the details with you.

I started planning in November, and began with designing an invite.  Since Sarah is having a boy, and loves grey, I chose the colour scheme of grey and turquoise.  From there I kept the theme cohesive by using the polka dots and the picture of the stylish, pregnant stick woman--a perfect emulation of Sarah.

I wanted everything to look very Pinterest, as Sarah had pinned and mentioned several things she liked in conversation of the course of several months.  As she is very creative--hello weekly chalkboard preggo pics--I wanted to do her proud and really focus on small details that make a big impact.

I'd love to share some photos with you if you'd like to see...

Since Sarah doesn't like cake, I special ordered 24 mini pies from Life of Pie in Ottawa in her favourites: strawberry-rhubarb, blueberry & pecan.  I displayed them on a cake stand and stuck in little toothpick decorations I made.

More pictures after the jump…

Last Friday my girl friends and I took the day off work (rendering us with an extra long weekend) and my bff hosted us at her place with her amazing pool.  The weather was perfect (about 35 degrees C) and we spent the day lounging and swimming, gossiping and enjoying each others' company.

We decided to make it a potluck brunch to ensure we were fed, hydrated and happy.  I brought that breakfast pizza I'm getting so good at making (and used tomato sauce on it this time; it's good!) and there was a ton of fruit, salads, dips and more.  ...And of course several cold-cooler-spritzer-liquid beverage varieties.

I would love to share some photos with you:

Fun story: one of the girls uploaded the first photo of all of us to Facebook and we ended up getting a radio shout-out on the air!  They even named us all, wishing us a great day.  Cute!

When my girlfriend asked me to help style the surprise party she was throwing for her man, I couldn't say no.  We came up with a colour theme and went from there.  She came up with a great menu and did a super job preparing the food.  We made tissue paper pom-poms and I created the table layout.  She also asked me to stick around and play photographer for the evening, since she knows how much I love taking pictures.  The birthday boy was totally surprised and everything went extremely well, it was great.

* I noticed that some of you have asked some questions in the comments section in the past and while I try my best to answer, either on your blog or via twitter, some of you don't have a blog.  I prefer not to respond to comments on my blog as not everyone checks back.  I do have a formspring account, where you can go and ask anything you'd like, even anonymously.  So, what are you waiting for?!

We went to a wedding reception on the weekend which was held at the golf course where Michael and I met (we both used to work there).  It was kind of neat being back there, bittersweet.  Anyways, the reception was beautiful and we had a fabulous time.  Since we weren't going until much later in the evening, I went out earlier and totally neglected planning my outfit.  When I got home at 10pm, I was going through all my dresses, somewhat frantically, and found this one, on the hanger, of course, but smushed in behind all the other dresses.  I had totally forgotten about it!  I bought it about two years ago and I ripped the tags off the night of the wedding (I love when the perfect occasion arises for something you've been holding onto).

Our friends MP & AT recently got engaged!  After over six years together, and two kids, he finally popped the question in the Bahamas this spring.  We are so excited for them!  The other night we went to an engagement party for the happy couple at a fabulous steak house.  There was at least 30 people there including friends and familly.  The generous couple even bought everyone their appetizers!  How sweet is that?  Congratulations MP & AT!

For Canada day our friends had an awesome party at their condo in a happening part of town.  They have the most amazing roof-top patio terrace which served perfectly for the warm day.  There were tons of people, great food and a great time in general.  HAPPY CANADA DAY!
