Outfit deets:
* Smart Set denim jacket (couple years old) which I've worn with these pink pants before with stripes.
* H&M henley bubble tank that I've had for a year.
* Bongo pink pants which are becoming a wardrobe staple (funny  how that happens since I was so apprehensive about wearing them at first) and last seen with a khaki denim jacket and polka dots and a sock bun.
* Le Chateau wedges (new!) that have tassels on 'em.
* Accessories: Stitches bird+cage necklace, MK watch & random bracelets

What do you feel like?

An frequently asked question but one that's response can be so hard to put into words.

I have had trouble expressing how I feel in the past; not wanting to hurt someone's feelings or give them the wrong impression, so I go along with whatever it is they want (I'm talking minor things here people, like weekend plans).  I was always nervous to say how I really felt in fear it would come across the wrong way or they would perceive it incorrectly.  A problem that most people who know me intimately might not think I have.  You see, I have been described as outgoing, friendly, loud, bossy, someone with a strong-personality... confident.  You wouldn't think someone with those traits, those qualities, would have a hard time speaking their mind.

And sometimes I don't.  Sometimes I speak my mind very clearly.

But sometimes it is much harder.  Sometimes I fall into the 'yes-trap' and have a hard time saying no.  Sometimes I accept invitations, plans, ideas when I really don't want to.  And hey, sometimes it's great to compromise, but when you find yourself saying yes when you really want to say no more often than not, that's when a change is due.

About a year ago, a friend recommended a book to me: 'The Disease to Please' by Harriet B. Braiker (a Doctor) and within the first 20 pages, I was totally doing the, 'Yes, this is so me.  I'm so this type of people pleaser!'.  There are three types of 'pleasers' in the book and your type is established through a series of mini-questions and surveys.  It's shocking how accurate it is.

I didn't end up finishing the book, just got busy with other stuff, but I really feel like the first quarter of the book already fed me so much.  Already fulfilled me so much.  It was a little bit eye-opening and surprising too.

I have been working on saying no over the past year.  This has to do with people-pleasing; always wanting to say yes to please others.  It's not easy, but over time it gets easier.  I read a fantastic quote though, about a month ago, "Learning to say no can be very difficult at first because the people around you that have been interacting with you have become used to you saying yes.  The other person may get angry, and then you have to know that their anger has nothing to do with you.  It has to do with them.  Just remember to say to yourself: When I say no to you, I'm saying yes to me."

Isn't that so true?
 Outfit deets:
* Gap dress (thrifted) which I've had for a couple years and you've seen belted with a turtle neck and tights and also with my favourite gladiator sandals.
* Gap denim jacket (thrifted recently) that I'm absolutely in love with.  It seems to trump all other denim jackets I own (which are numerous).
* Joe Fresh suede boots that I've had since Joe Fresh first opened (four years ago?) and I wore with a sweater/skirt/tights combo in autumn.
* Accessories:  Le Chateau pashmina & necklace, Michael Kors watch & random bangles.

Adding interest to an outfit can be as easy as 1, 2, 3.  Accessories are key and the possibilities are endless.

Above, I've shown the perfect (and easiest) way to add interest to an outfit with simple accessories: a necklace, jacket and pashmina.

I started with a basic a-line/tent style dress and casual flat boots (it was a sunny, semi-chilly spring day).  I added a wooden beaded necklace.  Then layered a denim jacket.  And lastly added a pashmina (which came in handy while sitting on patio later on when the wind picked up).

I personally tend to keep a jacket and pashmina with me at all times (throughout the spring/summer/fall) as the temperatures can be unpredictable and/or your day may run into the evening when the mercury tends to drop.  It is a simple and basic way to chic-ify your outfit and stay cozy too.

Smart Set denim jacket, F21 tank, Bongo jeans, Aldo wedges, Cutey charm bracelet, gifted bangle & Pandora bracelet

While getting dressed yesterday morning I pulled out my pink denim pants that I haven't worn since Christmas 2010 (and that was the first time I'd wore them after they sat in my closet with tags on for close to six months).  I'm not sure why, they just didn't scream at me to wear them (I certainly wear my red pants quite a bit though).  However, after pulling this outfit together, I think these pants are going to get a lot more play.  I felt so good in this outfit and although pink pants aren't something I've seen others wearing, that just might make me love them even more.

Are you rocking the coloured jean trend (yet)?

Now the fun part: Cutey contacted me and asked me if I'd be interested in owning one of their charm bracelets and hosting a give-away for you (my uber wonderful readers).

I was pretty pumped as this was before Christmas and before I got my Pandora bracelet.  Since I wear my Pandora everyday (so rare for me with any jewelery, but I love it that much), you can see both bracelets in the photo above, however, Cutey charm bracelets are fraction of the price and already come with several charms on them!  They even have different clasp styles to choose from (depending on the bracelet) so you can pick your favourite, too.  This is definitely something I would wear frequently and layer with other bracelets, a watch, even my Pandora (as I am here).

I rushed to take these photos.  Can you tell by the stunned look on my face?  Ha.  I was on my way to zumba, it was starting to rain, it was the end of the day, I was rushing, and the lighting was way off.  I ended up with these two work-able photos, not my favourites... but I did like this outfit (and my MTL girlfriend asked me to share with her how I would style my new red pants).

Thursday, Thursday, the day before the wonderful Friday.  Tonight I'm going to dinner with my grandparents and mom and then we are going to a musical (live play).  I'm not really a huge theatre go-er, but it was sweet of them to invite me and I get to spend some time with some of my favourite people, so, I'm in.

In other news, I bought three new rolling racks from Canadian Tire (50% off till today!).  I already purchased two from Home Outfitters which collapsed under the weight of my clothes (grrrr) so I returned those.  These ones are more 'heavy duty' so hopefully they will work.  If not, I will be lugging them back to the store... kind of how I was seen lugging them around the store.  This girl, of course, did not take a cart and was trying to carry three massive (and heavy, might I add) boxes of rolling racks.

In a mini skirt no less.

Fortunately, a nice man in his fifties offered to help me carry them to the cash.  And he had a limp.  Like WTF, I should be helping him.  How nice is that?  He said it was his good deed for the day and to 'pass it on'.

I will pass it on.

Have you done a good deed lately?

So you want to bleach your denim?  Cool.  Do you have patience?  Even better.  I bought this Gap denim jacket at the thrift store in the spring with the intent of doing this DIY, however, when I got it home I decided I really liked it and didn't want to change it.  Then, when I saw the photo above on the left from an outfit post, I realized I really didn't like this jacket as much as I thought and so it went to the DIY pile.  I finally have gotten around to posting this, so sorry for the delay.

Submerge the denim in water until it's wet all over.  Wring out and place on a flat surface.

Using an old Windex bottle, I filled it with bleach and sprayed the jacket.  A lot.  And when I say a lot, I really mean I ended up pouring bleach onto the jacket because spraying wasn't doing jack squat.

I used an old toothbrush to spread out the bleach I poured onto the jacket and brush it into areas.
I really focused on the seams.  Once dry, I washed and dried the jacket.

Ta-dah!  (more pictures here)

I seem to be one of those people that others like to strike up a conversation with.  I'm not sure what it is, but it happens all-the-time.  And I'm so 'nice' I just go with it, and will end up having full conversations with strangers so as to not be 'rude'.  What's up with that?  I mean, if we want to get morbid, typically women can be victimized based on that quality, so it's always something to keep in the back of your head, but, back to what I was saying... so while shooting this outfit, thinking I was in a fairly desolate place, sure enough an older man comes walking out from behind this building with his miniature dog.  First he looked at me, then he was just plain staring, and by the time he got close he must have felt that urge that people feel when they see me, he just had to strike up a conversation.  He started slewing out facts about what the building I was standing up against used to be (a mink farm), and how much they used to pay in rent monthly ($10k), and how this one family owned it for years (since the 1800's).  All the while I politely smiled and nodded and acted very interested.  Meanwhile, I was actually freezing as I'd taken off my overcoat at this time and it was only 4 degrees Celcius.  He finally walked away and I jumped back into my heated car and drove off.  Sheesh.

How fab is this green wall?  I was heading to the graffiti wall and this
is on one end of the same building (freshly painted) so I totally took advantage.
Working Jeans

What are you wearing this weekend?

When I saw Lena's post, I was immediately inspired.  While thrifting later that week, I actually came across these awesome (men's) Silver jeans.  I used to be a total sucker for Silver jeans when I was younger - they were my absolute favourite.  Now, they don't exactly do much for my body type, but I'll always have love.  The men's version, on the other hand, were exactly what I was looking for though: great wash, thick waistband, large back pockets and a fab distressed look ... in my size!  The woman at the cash confirmed they were men's jeans to ensure I still wanted them - ha, that's why I wanted them!

After washing and drying the jeans, I went at them with the scissors to create the perfect denim cut offs.

The length was still a little too long so...

...I cut 'em shorter

That's better

Next I cut slits on the sides

Then frayed them up with a knife and scissors along the raw edge
(once they are washed, they will fray more)

Voila!

PS - I know I'm so behind on all your blogs, and I'm sorry I've been a little MIA
(the wedding is sucking me dry ... blah blah blah, I know, I know ...)

Mexx cardigan & oxford, Joe Fresh tank, Mexx belt, Guess skirt, Ardène tights,
Aldo bangle, Qupid pumps, Necklace (similar here)

I am naturally drawn to denim.  Denim jackets, denim pants and denim skirts.  The odd thing is that I don't wear my denim skirts too often.  I have three fabulous denim pencil skirts (this one is slightly tulip style) which are all substantially different, and they sit in the my drawer.  I think they definitely get more play in the summer though.  I paired this with a crisp striped short-sleeve button down, cardi and classic belt.

{ Peanut wanted to join the photoshoot }

Denim no longer is restricted to jeans and jackets, it has now moved it's way down to your feet. And while the look may be a little risqué for the average bird, it doesn't look like we've seen the last of this trend.

How do you feel about denim footwear?
