As some of you know, from my Instagram and Facebook page, I'm currently in Las Vegas! Marco is here for work, so I tagged along, which is so nice. It's a great, quick break from the cold, and we go home on Wednesday.
This past weekend was my birthday and there were a few celebrations that were carried out which was just awesome. Last year was a special, bigger birthday, and Marco threw a party for me which was awesome. This year, though, I didn't want to do anything big because I have been so lucky with all I've been able to do over the past year and of course, coming to Vegas, but a couple of my girlfriends took me out to dinner separately, which was really generous.
So, with that, onto the weekend snaps...

On Friday night, my best friend, took me out to dinner to celebrate. We went to Soca, which is a new place in Hintonburg (my old 'hood!) that I'd heard about and been wanting to try!
More after the jump...
The food was really good and they bring you these delicious cheese-filled corn bites to start that are like a Mexican party in your mouth.
I had the Congri (above; which I don't see on their online menu) which was a vegetarian dish that tasted like a Mexican chili; it was so delicious. Sarah had The Simple Chicken which was just that but so tender and juicy (she shared); it was definitely better than we could ever make at home and she agreed.
For dessert Sarah asked if I would like to go somewhere else, which was such a great idea! I am always so indecisive, especially when choosing where to eat, and finally decided on old faithful: Chances R!
This is definitely more of a Senior's spot, but it's a place we love to frequent for mid-week lunches as the food is amazing and the coconut cream pie is something we both love a ton!
This month Sarah and I are doing a Plank Challenge we came up with and Friday was the 2-minute mark, so I rolled out my yoga mat in hopes the traction would help. It didn't. It was torture.
Saturday morning car wash.
Marco and I went to Baker Street on Saturday afternoon for brunch--we haven't been in a few months and it was amazing, per usual.
Then we ran some errands and I swung by Target to scoop up a few make-up items since everything is being liquidated (they are closing all the Canadian locations, sadly).
I had never tried this L'Oreal Infallible foundation so I picked up two shades (101 and 102). I've been using the 102, and I'm quite fair, and at first wasn't sure--it goes on pretty light. However, once it oxidizes, it darkens a bit, but not too much that it looks like you're wearing a mask.
This is definitely a matte finish and as someone with dry skin, I don't usually prefer that, however, after several hours shopping, eating and exploring in Vegas, I looked in the mirror and my make-up looked awesome! I am definitely starting to love this product more than I thought I was.
Saturday night a huge snowstorm swept in. I spent the evening cleaning the condo, packing and getting ready to fly out super early the next morning.
I've been making this super simple, vegetarian pasta lately: whole wheat pasta tossed with sautéed onions & grape tomatoes, topped with fresh basil and parmesan petals.
Saturday morning at the airport around 7am.
Snow storm was still going strong but that didn't stop the flights.
Vegas!
Since Marco and I couldn't get on the same flight, I arrived about six hours before him so I checked into the hotel (the Luxor), took a quick shower and headed out to explore.

It felt so good to go bare-legged! I walked down the strip in search of food before hitting up Marshalls to do some shopping.
But first, chocolate-coconut-rum milkshake (and some lunch) at Tom's outdoor bar, please #splurge
Marco got in that evening a bit later than expected and took me for a birthday dinner at Tender, a steakhouse in the Luxor. We had a fantastic meal but by the end, we were practically falling asleep in the booth since it was 1am our time and jet lag was kicking in (and being up at 5am for me!).
We decided to forgo dessert, too tired, too full, and waddled back to the hotel room. When we got there, he opened the door and let me go through first and...
...there was a beautiful birthday surprise waiting for me!!! Chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, and balloons. I actually kind of lost it because it was just so unexpected and sweet--he really knows how to spoil me and I know I'm getting a little mushy on this post, but, I am so grateful.
Thanks so much for reading (and being patient while I take a needed break and enjoy some time away). Hope you all had a great weekend too!
