Am I relatable?

When I started this blog it was a fashion blog and over the years--almost four, to be exact--it has turned into more of a lifestyle blog.  I like sharing things on here like my weekend recaps and the like, and have recently gotten really into YouTube--not that it wasn't obvious--which is a great extension of my blog.  All that said, despite the changes in direction, the one that has always remained the same is my goal to be relatable.

Am I?

When I write and post pictures, it's in an effort to share with you the daily, or weekly happenings in my life.  Some weekends are more exciting than others, but most weekends seem more exciting than they actually are.  Don't get me wrong, I have great things in my life, like everyone, if you... what is it they say, count your blessings?  I just think reading through the pages of someone else's life/blog can sometimes come off as so exciting when really, it's just bacon & eggs at a bar & grill.

I can absolutely say that yes, there are some things that have happened to me in the past year or so that have been extra awesome; Vegas, becoming the Place d'Orleans Fashion Vlogger, modelling for PDO's Christmas campaign--which, btw, was my first time modelling for realz--and again in the Spring for a Pinterest contest, going to Mexico for my birthday and so on.  That said though, these are things that still kind of blow my mind and make me blink twice thinking, 'Uh, did this just happen?'

Then of course, there are the things that are so normal, the every day stuff that most of you don't see, or know about.  I go to work, Monday through Friday and yeah, it's okay.  I live in a very small apartment and use a shop vac as my vacuum--I'm serious.  If you've been reading for a while, you know I've been through a difficult hardship--and if you don't, you can check my About Me section, it's easy to figure it out.  I drive a nice car now, but drove a crappy car for 10 years--and am also paying out the ass for this very nice car.  Don't get me started on filling up my gas tank #alwaysonempty.

I have insecurities, bad hair days and still don't fully know how to match my foundation and set my concealer.  I never really want to go to the gym, don't like cooking that much and never make my bed.  All very, very ordinary things.  Shall I go on?

I just really want, for when anyone comes here, to my space, my blog, to feel comfortable, happy and enjoy the 'experience'.  I love reading blogs, but I hate getting those envious feelings about others.  Ugh.  Makes me angry with myself because we don't know what goes on behind the scenes, we only see the highlight reel.  So let me know, in the comments section below, what would make my site more relatable?  What would make me more relatable?  Is there anything you'd like to see--how about me without make-up? #yikes--that I haven't already shared?  Post it down below and let's chat about it.

PS - That couch I'm sitting on up there is eight years old and the MacBook put a dent in my savings.

  1. Not only are you relatable, you are amazing. I am proud to call you my BBFF! It's funny because as the years have gone on, you've opened up to share more about yourself with your readers, and I've gone in the other direction...I keep it all business - fashion/beauty/lifestyle period. I used to be more open. I've been thinking about that and I am exploring ways to change it. People can be mean and judgy so it can be scary to put it all out there. But you do it effortlessly, you are real, and a whole lotta awesomeness.

  2. very relatable, which is why i've continued to read your blog and watch your videos for more than year. you make yourself so accessible that i feel like i know you well, like another one of my friends, but you get to tell me about a slightly different life that includes totally cool opportunities. it's like having a cool friend who lives in another city.

  3. Do you wanna know why you've been one of my favourite bloggers for so long now? It's because YOU ARE so relatable!
Whenever a friend of mine asks me what blogs they should check out, your name is the first one I tell them because your life, and what you share, can be related to by so many people. And not to mention that it doesn't hurt that your clothing and makeup items are ones that the average person can afford too!

  4. Your relatability is on the reasons why I started to read your blog over a year ago! Everyone has ups and downs but not everyone is brave enough to share them for all to see and yes, judge. Have you checked out GOOP ever (Gwenyth Paltrow's Lifestyle blog/website?) Take a look-see and maybe that will give some perspective on HOW relatable you are. Everyone's lives are so different, the paths we take are our own. However, there are key experiences and feelings that we share that will tie us together to know we aren't alone. You sharing your life (or pieces of it) will help others to feel connected. Keep doing what you do GUUUURRRRL! We love you for it :) OXOXOXOX

  5. I think you're easy to relate to!

I really enjoy reading your posts and following along with your life. I especially like how honest you were about your personal struggles a couple years ago...it could not have been easy to open up like that and post it for the world to see.

  6. I think you are SUPER relatable and I love visiting your blog and following you on instagram and youtube. You are one of the first blogs that I discovered so I feel like i've gone through a lot with you (lol...sorry weird) and I still enjoy you to this day!

Just stay you and you have nothing to worry about!

  7. One of my favorite things about you is actually how relatable you truly are. I visit a lot of other blogs and while they're inspirational and I'd love to have or experience some of the things those other bloggers share, it isn't always so "real" in my opinion. A lot of what they share seems very unattainable even for a successful person their age. They seem to flaunt things they are given due to their blog status and after a while it seems like they're all the same person. Then there are those bloggers who you feel like you know or like they're an old friend. That's the type of blogger I see you as and that's why I continue to come back. Thanks for being so open and an even bigger thanks for caring if you're relatable. It's nice to see that you're human. :)

  8. I find you really relatable which is one of the main reasons that I find myself reading your blog on a daily basis (And watching videos too!) I think it also helps that we live in the same city so it is kind of fun to read a blog written by someone who visits places that look familiar!

Even though we don't know each other, it almost feels like we are sitting down to chat when I'm watching the videos or reading the weekend updates.

Basically....love the blog! Keep it up! Hope this works, I tried responding earlier and the internet ate my comment!

  10. Your blog is the first I one I check in the morning! I find you the most relatable of any of the blogs I read. I feel like some bloggers only show case the really expensive things they own. I love everything you mix and match together and you really do have a unique sense of style with pieces anyone can own. Keep it up!

  12. Amanda,

I think you are so relatable in person and online. I love your blog because it showcases YOU. I like reading along about the good times, the hard times, the cool things, the shitty things and everything in between. Like everyone has said above, keep being you!

I also enjoy that via you and your blog, it showcases ME! haha. It's cool to look back and see our pics, videos and times together. This way I can get away with not having my own blog or YouTube channel - tee hee hee! Just kidding. Not kidding. Totes kidding.

You cover a vast array of topics which everyone loves and live a real life like 99% of people. But, with cool experiences mixed in that people can live vicariously through - ya lucky bish!

Keep up the great and interesting work! So many people wish they could write a blog, or film vlogs or snap pics for Instagram like you - but you actually take the time to DO IT! Good on ya. It's part of your life and we readers all benefit from it. YAY US.

Thanks for being YOU and taking the time to blog about it. Love ya!
