Annnnd, a funny video we made on Saturday night...

My girl friend and I like to get together for attempted bi-weekly meals.  We live close to each other so it's great for impromptu dinners or a planned one like last night.

We decided to have fajitas and split up the ingredients to pre-shop.  I was in charge of some toppings (I made guacamole for the first time and it turned out amazing!) and the drinks.  We sat on the patio, drank, ate and talked.  She read my tarot cards and I made some distressed denim shorts for her out of her old jeans.  Then we decided to take her adorable pup for a walk and ended up getting into some crazy shee-nans at the park (check out that video below).  Aren't summer evenings the best?

Happy weekend!

Sometimes when I don't feel like hitting the gym after work I'll go for a power walk with my girl friend and her pooch.  Since she lives close by, it's perfect.  Yesterday we went on our longest walk yet, over 7km (the last kilometre was a run for me as we got to her place first and I went the rest of the way home solo).

We went through trails, beautiful parks and saw gorgeous scenery.  I, of course, took the opportunity to snap a couple photos while we were out.  The weather is getting so beautiful, it's nice to be able to spend time outdoors again without having to bundle up (or rush back indoors)!
During our walk my girl friend said she had a 'challenge' in mind for us and she'd let me know once we arrived at said challenge.  Turns out it was a super steep hill and the challenge was to run up it as fast as we could.  It didn't look too steep from the bottom but once in it, it was steep!  We huffed and puffed and raced up the hill and once we got to the top, we sat on a small rock wall to catch our breath and turned around; the picture above was our view.

All photos taken with my iPhone 4S.

While working on a new sewing project (a top), I was getting frustrated and ready to give up.  I wasn't ready to retire the sewing machine for the evening, and was trying to think of what I could make and not screw up (ie. end the night on a satisfied note) when Peanut ran by.  As I mentioned, we are dog sitting my family dog for a couple of days.  I thought she defintely needed a new collar, and I got busy.  Here's what went down.

Start with some slippery fabric (nylon)
(this was the lining from a thrifted skirt - which I specifically bought to take apart)

Cut a strip, about 4 inches thick

Serge the edges so it doesn't fray (or do a zig-zag stitch as I did)

Fold the fabric and start to sew the ruffle...

Ta-dah

Grab some pretty ribbon...

...I sewed two together for a pretty look

Attach the ribbon to the ruffle

Voila!

I came across Fashion Is Poison's blog today and am completely tearing up over her post about her late puppy, Daryl

What an amazing, sad story, but the pictures are just beautiful.  See for yourself.
