Do you kiss on the first date?

After such positive and great feedback on last week's discussion (thank you!), I've decided to post these on Wednesday's and call them our, Let's Chat posts.  Please chime in within the comments below, I love hearing from you all, and it's fun to interact.

When I was single, I went on several dates and remember one date asking me if I ever kissed on the first date.  What a surprising question and one I had to think about it.  The answer was no, since being re-single, but not because I think it's bad.  In fact, I don't think there is anything wrong with a kiss on the first date, but for me, up until that point, I guess I never felt comfortable with most dates or ready for that step.

Kissing can be so intimate, or it can be so impersonal.  I remember not having any reservations about it when I was younger, but as I've gotten older, I totally shy away from the idea, as if it's something I reserve for a few dates in.

What about you, do you kiss on the first date?  Or did you?

Definitely depends on the situation for me. The man I am married to was a friend of mine for a number of months before we started dating, and by the time things turned romantic, we knew each other fairly well, so on our first official "date", I couldn't wait to kiss him.

However, in other, previous situations where I had dated guys that I didn't know well before we went out, I didn't always kiss them on the first date. I think kissing is incredibly intimate and even a quick kiss on the lips with someone you hardly know can feel wrong, or just...not quite appropriate yet, is maybe a better way of putting it.

It has been a long time since I was on a first date, but I have never kissed on the first date. I agree that it depends on the situation. Like @Adelaide said, she knew her date well before they became romantic. But a first date with someone you barely know, or a (EEEK!) blind date; I don't think that I would kiss someone on the lips that I JUST met. Kissing is intimate and I reserve the privileged to kiss me (hahaha) to only to people I am attracted too. That attraction will normally take time.....unless there's alcohol involved... LOL!

I would agree with both comments above - it TOTALLY depends on the situation. I wouldn't say yes and I wouldn't say no. It depends on the person (first time I've met them? or known them casually for awhile?) as well as the vibe during the date (obvious sparks or just another outing). If I had serious sparks with someone I wouldn't think twice about it (I mean, it's kissing we're talking about here), but if I was even a little unsure, it likely wouldn't happen.

I think kissing is so intimate, and kissing someone on the first date would be a no no, if you don't know them. My thoughts anyhow! If you were friends and ice was long broken, then maybe a kiss after a "real" date wouldn't be so out of the question.

I love kissing and being kissed, some people don't though. So finding a compatible kiss partner is important..like similar sex drive. If you are not kissing and intimate with your partner, then what differs you from friends or roommates?

Kiss and tell!

@Adelaide: I totally agree, if you've known each other for a while, it's more likely to happen as you're more comfortable.

I think we all feel pretty similar, the best point is how comfortable you feel and that is is intimate.

@Sarah: I never thought of the 'term' -compatible kissing partners-, but it makes sense. Sexually you want to be compatible, and kissing is no different. I'm the same as you for sure, I love being kissed and need that connection.

Depends, but I would say I usually do (or did before I got married)....
