Mexx dress, Aldo flats (last seen here), unknown tights, Suzy necklace & A.Co Designs bracelet

Dresses with pockets.  Seriously awesome.  I have a few.  I've insisted a few.  This one is no exception.  I bought this dress three years ago and still wear it, still get compliments on it, and still love it.  I've never belted it nor worn it without tights, and I think I've always worn it with flats because the hemline is quite short on me.  Sometimes you get stuck in your own fashion box and can't see beyond it, and while I certainly think it's important to step outside the box often, it's almost just as important to know what works and to sometimes stick with it.

It's Friday!  Yipee!  What are your weekend plans my lovely readers?  I'm planning on checking out a friend's new place (and potentially downing some vino while at it), finally setting up my sewing machine and celebrating my Grammy's birthday.

  Have a great weekend!

I went and did some Christmas shopping last night and this is what I wore.  I was lazing around the house all day long and with husband working later on, I wanted to put on 'real' clothes (and make up!) and get out of there for a bit.  I ended up only returning a few things (the impulse boots I mentioned), wandering around aimlessly, taking a break on a mall bench before eventually heading home.  First, though, I picked up ingredients so I could make Caesars, pizza and a cheese plate for my hubs.  When he got home, it was the first time he'd seen my hair since I got it done on Thursday evening (both nights I was already sleeping when he got home and in the mornings I was up and off before he was) and he was loving it.  He immediately whipped out his iPhone and started snapping pictures of me, non stop (so cute).  The outfit was a bit hit too as he couldn't stop raving about how much he liked it (score!).

I am the type of person that doesn't embarass easily.  I try to laugh at myself if something awkward happens, make a joke, roll with the punches.  This was one day where I could not avoid embarrassment and it certainly got the best of me.

During my lunch hour at work, I decided to take a walk outside and snap some outfit shots while I was at it.  Being the ever-adventurous person that I am (ha), when I came across this deserted park, I thought it would be perfect.  Well, not exactly.  So as I'm snapping various shots and pulling out all the stops, I decide it would be a good idea to climb onto the little springy seesaw and get a pic (funny, harmless, whatever!  Right?  Wrong!).  As I'm in the middle of trying to balance all the while looking like I'm having fun in anticipation of the self-time, I hear a guy's voice say, 'Am I dreaming?'  My neck snaps up to look at this guy, who is about my age, standing about 10 feet in front of me, pretty much in a daze.  He was walking his dog, comes upon me, smiling and laughing (at who?!  Only my camera...) playing on the playground, alone... wow.  I quickly jumped off the seesaw and muttered various things, trying to save face while he asked me if I had any friends and if I always do this... oh and that it looked like fun.  He eventually left, but I'm almost 100% sure I flashed him too.  Wow.  What a lunch hour.

I'm relishing the fact that I can still go bare-legged and am not looking forward to tights.  The winter is so long here and as much as I love tights, having to wear them for six months a year is long, and can be tiresome.  Being bare-legged is so nice, easy, refreshing and free.  I'm giving it till October before I even look at my tights, then, I will bite the bullet and silently agree that winter is almost here and sucumb to the cold.

Say hello to my new (wardrobe) BFF: this (p)leather jacket that I just picked up the other day.  When I saw it, it was a no brainer and I had to snatch it up.  This is the first time I've worn it and I love it.  I can just see myself pairing it with my incoming favourite fall colour (olive), skinny jeans, flowy dresses and more (thankyouverymuch).

{ sometimes you just wanna wear flats ... and so I did }
H&M dress (purchased on the weekend), Sirens cardigan & belt, thrifted bag,
Aldo shoes (I was actually wearing these - I just slipped on the flats for my lunch hour),
Smart Set necklace, H&M bangle & Suzy ring

I'm sadly unimpressed with how these photos turned out (but clearly not unimpressed enough not to share).  Not only were half of them blurry, but I didn't get many good shots.  I was even more unimpressed with who showed up (see last photo), which forced me to end this photoshoot earlier than planned.  Fortunately, he wasn't there for me.

I have developed somewhat of an obsession with flowy tops lately.  I can't get enough and always want to rock one, whether with a pencil skirt or skinny jeans, it's the perfect mix between business and casual but pulled together and chic (and of course, oh-so-stylish).  While rushing to get dressed this morning, I saw this old skirt in my drawer.  Something I've owned for more than 10  years and something I haven't worn in probably 5 years.  I decided to throw it on and under the blazer it worked perfectly.  I'm so pumped to 'add' another flowy top to my closet.

The title of this post is fitting because  1. It represents a sailor term,  2. It's a inside joke between my sister and I, and  3. Said (awesome) sister took these photos (thnx Jr!).  Not only is this outfit sailor-inspired, but it brings me back to a current fave.  It also gives you a peak inside a day without heels.  How often do you see me in flats?  Not very often, but I certainly welcome it when it happens.  And lastly, when I saw my parents my mom asked me if this was a new dress (which I usually answer back with, 'What constitutes new, exactly?') and this was no exception.  It may be hard to believe, but, I bought this dress over a year ago and this was the first time I finally wore it.  Well, it turned out to be just the right day for it.
