Anniversary Dinner at Hudson Clearwater in NYC

During our three-day (anniversary) trip to New York City, I knew Hudson Clearwater was a place I wanted to try.  Joanna raved about it on her blog years ago, and I kept it in my back pocket for the future which happened to be the weekend before last.

More photos after the jump...

From the front, the restaurant looks like a closed up shop, but if you go around the side of the building (above) and push through a green door (below), you enter a beautiful lit up terrace..

Tables and chairs are set up for extra seating and guests dine under the twinkly lights while staff buzz about, you enter the restaurant through the back door.

We made a reservation late but managed to secure a spot at the Chef's Table, which is essentially the bar that looks into the kitchen.  Last year, we ate at Town in Ottawa and sat in a similar spot which looked into the kitchen so by fluke, this might have become a sweet tradition.

Marco had the lamb and I had a peach-burrata salad to start.  Unbelievable flavour and portion size.

When they mixed up Marco's dinner order, accidentally, they were quick to whisk the wrong plate back to the kitchen with deep apologies.  We started to nibble away at mine (we were kind of planning on sharing our plates anyway) when our server dropped of this fresh tomato salad to tide him over.  Marco, someone who isn't normally a huge tomato fan, absolutely loved this salad so that's definitely saying something!

For dinner he had the pork chops and I took the ribeye with a side of summer squash.  Everything was cooked perfectly and so flavourful.  Each bite was like a little piece of heaven, if I can be so cliche.  I can honestly say this was in the top five of my best meals ever.

After we finished dinner and our wine, Marco had a coffee and I ordered the lemon tart which was the perfect way to end the meal.  I didn't take photos of this, as I simply wanted to savour the moment and the food and the remainder of our night celebrating.

Thanks so much for reading!

  1. Yum! I would eat all of these things! I haven't been out to a nice dinner in a while since I'm trying to eat healthy and also to save money, but am so looking forward to doing just that on my vacation next month.
Looks like it was a great place to celebrate your anniversary!
