I hit up Joe Fresh the other evening after work, well, I was actually going for groceries and the clothes enticed me. While I only picked up one item--the black tee above--I did try on several things and though I would share. I like seeing what other people try on, how it looks, etc. and I've done this before, so here we go.
The tee above is $16 and comes in black and grey. I had to resist from purchasing both since I'm a bit of a hoarder like that, and went with just the black in a size medium. It has some pretty pleating on the shoulders, a deep scoop neck and a split-seam, and squared off hi-low hemline.
I loved the wash of these $39 jeans but per usual, they did not fit well. Pants never work for me with Joe Fresh, but I always give it a shot. Looking at this photo, they don't look so bad, in fact, I kind of like how they look, but in person it was no bueno. These were a size 31 and too loose everywhere, but I could not get the 30's done up despite the legs fitting well.
Two more items after the jump...
The orange racer-back gym tank is around $24, I think, and comes in black as well. I loved this top, especially the thick, well made seamless straps, but the built in sports bra sucked. It was flimsy and does nothing for the girls. If I'm wearing a tank with a built-in bra, I don't really want to wear a sports bra so I reluctantly passed on this one (was so pretty and well made though). I tried on a size small as there was no medium and it would have been the right size to go with.
I wanted this sweater to work so badly but unfortunately they only had small and extra-small left (this is a small). It's black and kind of thinly crocheted, and you would definitely need to wear a tank under it (unless you're feeling bold for date night?) and was around $39, I believe. Not only is this pose awkward, the sweater is far too small but I wanted to share anyway because not everything we try on always looks good, right? Additionally, these are the size 30 jeans (my usual size, I'd say), which as mentioned above are not done up.
did you checked your note on fb?
ReplyDeletedid you answer it yet?
ReplyDeleteIt's funny because I was thinking the jeans looked great on you (and then I read a little further down to what you said)!
ReplyDeleteThat's the worst about that place-we only have Joe Fresh in Dominion which means I can never buy groceries without shopping too! The struggle is real! :)
@Renee: Haha yes!! We only have one store front in Ottawa, and the location isn't ideal for me so I end up going to the various Loblaws (typically) instead. To spin it optimistically, it makes groceries wayyyy more fun :P
ReplyDeleteSuperstore Boreleans - has the sweater in medium...was there with my 4 yr old Lovebug on Saturday doing groceries and it was in stock. FYI!

@Cassandra: thank you! I might make my way there ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about joe fresh. I've heard it's affordable, but kind of cheap quality. What should I do? Go for quality (tahari, Ralph Lauren) or quantity (walmart, sears, joe fresh)?
ReplyDelete@Anon: The quality of Joe Fresh isn't top of the line, but sometimes they carry some gems, like full silk tops, etc. I do find it's made well, and you can find some great pieces.
ReplyDeleteI think when shopping, try to consider the cost per wear of an item and if you're planning on keeping it long term. For me, super trendy items are often things I don't tend to splurge on (eg. overalls, funky shoes, and belts). You can often find items at lower price points that look great and won't break the bank.
Something I have recently splurged on is designer denim (and I while I'll always love a good deal, the fit has proven to be AMAZING on my new Paige white skinnies and they are all I want to wear), shoes, and a statement coat. These are all items I plan to keep and wear for many years to come, I appreciate the quality and are solid staples for any wardrobe.
Another thing to consider is how you plan on washing your clothes--are you lazy like me and want to wash everything in the machine yourself, or are you willing to fork out the extra cash or time on dry cleaning and hand washing? Finally, if you are debating on an item and it's price point (whether inexpensive or pricey), have a look at the material. Is it polyester or synthetic? Likely not worth the splurge. However, fabrics like silk, leather, wool and rayon will last (usually) and see you through many years so they might be worth the extra money.
Bottom line, buy what you love, I think a great wardrobe is made up of a combination of lower and higher end pieces, and it might be worth a trip to the thrift store to see what you can score there too at a fraction of the retail price.
