I have been blogging for close to one year and absolutely love it. It has become a fantastic hobby for me, something that I really enjoy and take great pride in. Something that frustrates me, though, is learning HTML. I know some basics (I am self-taught) however, this isn't something that seems to come too naturally to me... or perhaps I'm just not putting in enough time.
When I see other girls' blogs, I can't help but wonder how they got their pictures positioned like that, how did they create such a cool collage or where on earth can I learn to do that. I feel that since starting my blog, it has come a long way, and my layout is better than ever, I find it pleasing to the eye, etc. However, there are certain things I want to do, things I want to learn, but it all seems so difficult. I google HTML learning sites frequently, use other bloggers' 'Source' to try and teach myself how to do certain things, but it just doesn't always work out... or at least, it isn't as easy as I wish it was.
Like anything, a beautiful end result takes work, and effort, and that's something I'm willing to do but I'm somewhat at a loss of where to start, and how to get there. So my fellow blogging friends, where did you learn your HTML? Are you still learning? Do you wish your skills were better or are you quite satisfied with what you know?
Lastly, I'd love to hear your suggestions for my blog. What could I do to make it more pleasing to the eye? How can I make it easier to navigate? And what do you personally like to see on a blog?
PS - Does anyone know sign language? (hehe)
yes! that made me giggle.
ReplyDeletei learned super basic (like bold, color, underline, insert a pic, insert a link, etc) html back in 96 and have never really progressed since that. ha!
i like a clean layout. i'm gonna find someone to do mine and reveal it in 2011!
taught myself html and I work as a web programmer, so that's how I know XD
ReplyDeletea good site to use is: http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
and as for graphics I use Photoshop since I'm a graphic designer, but it is really expensive :/
If you ever need help with anything you can email me :)

Html often frustrates me as well and I have definitely spent way too many nights googling and getting no where.
ReplyDeleteI simply google what ever it is I'm trying to do. I can generally find things that way. I also just play around with the HTML. I have discovered many things just by guessing. Just make sure to hit 'preview' and not 'save'. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm not so good with the photo editing as I'm too cheap to pay for the software. I use free online ones. (photoscape for PC is great)
I am constantly looking at my blog thinking that I'd like it to look better but short of paying someone to do it I'm not sure what else I can do.
I like your blog. It's clean. I hate blogs that have too much crap everywhere and colours like mad and music. . . ugh the music is the bane of my existence.
I am moving this week. But since I live so close it will be a move that lasts many weeks I think. When are you coming down again?! We will definitely meet up!
yeah, good idea for a post, I don't know either, I just kinda pick up little things here and there- maybe I'll come back to your comments and read others' suggestions! ahah
ReplyDeleteBahaha, that image is pretty amazing (and I used to be fluent in sign language as a teenager... had a friend who was deaf and for a while wanted to become an interpreter!)
ReplyDeleteAs for html, I am self taught! When I change my layout, etc, it's usually a long, frustrating weekend! I do the same as you - googling 'how to' sites, looking at other blogs sources, etc! I don't know very much, but if you ever want help with anything, send me an email! I'd be happy to try to help! xo!
