On our second, and only full day, in Positano, we booked a boat trip for the day to take us to the island of Capri. We made the descent down to the beach where the sun was starting to peek through the clouds...
We boarded a medium-sized boat with 10 other people and our Captain who took us out to sea. It was quite chilly but we sat the front of the boat the enjoy the views.
He took us into various caves and grottos on the way to Capri so we could admire and take photos--and had it been warmer, swim!
The water was a perfect, dark teal! It was so clear in the grottos, you could see right to the bottom, which was anywhere from 10 to 30 feet deep.
These are Capri landmarks, with the main island to the right of us. After the Captain gave us a chance to take some photos, we headed right through the rock!
Once we arrived on the island, we had four hours to explore. We were surprised at the hundreds of tourists who were doing exactly as we were--cleary it's the place to go! Not only that, we saw tons of photos outside restaurants with celebrity photos of folks that had been there (ie. Beyonce, Jay-Z, Reese Witherspoon, Mariah Carey, Chris Bosch, Catherine Zeta-Jones and more).
Also: lemons everywhere.
We grabbed tickets for the tram, to go up to the centre of the island where all the shops and restaurants were.
The view from the 'top' was beautiful and we could see the harbour front from where we had docked. The view is similar to Positano, just less cliff-side homes.
We explored for a while before working up an appetite and scoring a small table on a busy walk-way. We sat outside in the warm sunshine, ate, chatted and people-watched.
Before long, it was time to board the boat and set sail back to Positano. The sun was shining and the seas were much calmer.
Our Captain pulled into a few more grottos on the way back before surprising us with some bubbly and fresh fruit! What a great way to end the day-long boat trip.
Back at the beach in Positano, below.
If you're in Amalfi, Plaghia Charter picks up along the coast, not only in Positano, so they are very accommodating. I'd highly recommend the trip; it was about 60 euro each for the day, which was well worth it and much cheaper than other places we looked at!
